Is there a common place to check for a bad ground, or connection that would cause my 1989 4.2 liter wrangler to have symptoms of having a dead battery...when the battery is working perfectly. This happens about 3 or 4 times a week, then if I leave-it for a few hours it starts perfectly?

it sounds like your starter is going bad. that's a classic syptom. it actually happens to my car but i haven't had the time to change the starter yet. sometimes this works. if you can locate and access the starter, tap on it firmly but not too hard with a broom stick while someone starts the car.

Ground points vary from year to year but the main ones are from battery to block, strap from back of block to firewall, some small ones near the computer on the left fender and also one from battery to right fender.
You may have a starter solenoid that is worn out or a starter relay going bad. There is a ground wire going to that relay that can also give you a problem. To find it, you need to open up the power distribution center and check the ground at the relay itself, usually a double black wire (2) with a white stripe on them. Being that old, you may have replacement terminal ends as well. when cleaning them, you need to remove the wires from the attachment straps and clean there as well as the battery terminals.
Also, charge and have the battery load tested. Even a brand new one can sometimes have problems.

My 2002 jeep wrangler isnt idling right , stalls , hesitation and barely reves. its throwing p0201 , p0202 , p0352 and p0353. the injectors arent bad and im getting a good spark from coil rail ports.

Is this a 4.0 liter or a 2.5 liter wrangler? Sometimes the crankshaft sensor causes these things to make these codes come up. Crankshaft position sensors are very common of going bad on Jeep vehicles.

Have a 89 jeep with a 2.5 liter, keeps fouling out the plugs.

How is your o2 sensor? if it is bad it would make the car run rich and foul the plugs.

My jeep is not getting fire what are the possible reasons its not the crankshaft position sensor or the coil.

I think your 2.5 still has a distributor...check for a cracked cap, or cracked rotor...same symptom...hope this helps.

No fire to plugs

Hi there:
The most commonly cause of a no spark condition on Wranglers is a bad ignition module.

Hope this helps.

What should the idle speed be set at on a 1989 jeep wrangler 4.2 liter straight 6 cyl. It has a 2bbl carb. It idles at 1000 rpm right now but seems fast or is that about right?

Most carb. engines should idle between 725 and 750 R.P.M., lower the idle and be sure to check the timing. You should have an emissions label under the hood to explain the idle and timing.

I have a 89 jeep wrangler and the rear passenger side turn light, break light, or tail light will not work. It was working and still is on the front. I have checked bulb and fuse and I cant find. Its like...

Like any bulb, it needspower and ground. Probe the contact in the bulb socket with a test light and check for power. If you have power, use the same ground you did for the test light and connect a short piece of wire there and probe the socket with the bulb installed (insert down into the socket between the bulb and socket) If the light comes on re-ground the socket.
If you get nothing for power check the harness closer to the switch...if nothing there you may need to check the signal switch to make sure an internal contact hasn't failed. I'm betting it's a bad ground though.
