The horn plunger should stick through the "L" shaped slot in the lockplate. Make sure everything is clocked correctly before compressing the lockplate or you will break the cancelling cam assembly.

Where is the horn relay under the engine

The horn is in front of the grill and radiator on the drivers side it is a black disk.
The relay is int the engine compartment on the drivers side in relay/fuse-box. The name "Horn" should be on the fuse-box lid to identify what relay is needed.
Question: Is your horn only sounding at certain steering wheel positions? If so the problem the brass contact plunger in back of the steering wheel is worn out. You can buy a kit with the ring and plunger to fix that.

How would I go about replacing the turn signal switch on a 92 Cutlass Supreme S?

Well two major tools you will need,a steering wheel puller ,and a lock plate remover.Remove the horn button(carefully disconnect the horn button wire) pad, screws on back side of steering wheel, then remove large nut holding steering wheel(but first mark steering wheel to be sure you are able to line it back up properly),then use the steering wheel puller, after steering wheel is removed install lock plate remover and compress lock plate down ,and remove C clip pull upwards out of groove, remove puller and C clip and remove horn rotor and lock plate, and you are at the turn signal switch three screws hold the part, remove emergency switch with phillups screw driver and the turn signal lever. remove bezel under dash (where ur knees would be,and disconnect the long flat plug and remove it from its holder and remove turn signal switch.

I had to replace the horn cancelling switch on my 1986 Chevy truck. No tilt. I got the wheel and locking ring off, replaced the part and now I can't get the lock ring back on all the way. I've got...

Hi, been there, done that--the likely cause is the bearing slipping out the other end of the column. Go in the engine compartment and push it back in and have someone hold it in while you compress the plate spring.

How do you take the steering wheel off of a 1986 chevrolet c10

1. Turn the steering wheel from side to side until it locks into place. This will make the process a bit easier, as the wheel won't be turning as you work.

  • 2 Remove the horn button in the center of the steering wheel by pulling it off towards you. This will expose the steering wheel nut at the center.

  • 3 Unbolt the center bolt from the steering wheel, using the 1/2-inch ratchet, extension and socket. This might free the steering wheel right away, but most likely you'll have to proceed to the next step.

  • 4 Position the steering wheel puller on the steering wheel such that the center bolt on the puller is on the center shaft of the wheel. Then thread in the bolts supplied with the puller into the two threaded holes on either side of the center shaft on the wheel.

  • 5 Tighten down the center bolt on the steering wheel puller using the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket until the steering wheel pops free. Then remove the steering wheel puller from the steering wheel.

Repair horn assy how do you remove the assy

Are you speaking of the horn? Or the horn relay? Or the horn button? Or the horn button split ring armature? To remove the horn assembly in the steering wheel you will need a steering wheel puller and a U shaped clamp that will screw down to the steering bolt you will need a 3/4 socket with a 3-inch extension and a ratchet. You will also need to picks to pull center snap ring off to get to the parts under the plate for the horn. To remove you will need to buy 2 security nuts tork wrenches #8 I believe, you will have to disconnect the battery before working on it as the bag could explode if you do not have the battery disconnected. After removing the positive side of battery cable wait 5 minutes before proceeding. Then remove the two bolts that hold the front horn assembly and air bag from the rear of the steering wheel next remove horn air bag assembly and disconnect the wire for the air bag. Place horn to the side then remove the 3/4 bolt out from the center, next install steering wheel puller on the steering wheel and put in three bolts and tighten them evenly so that the puller is on straight. Screw center bolt into the steering bolt until the wheel comes loose, remove steering wheel and place it at the side, next use the U shaped clamp to press the center plate down 1/4 inch to be able to clear the snap ring around the steering wheel. With one pick hold the ring in place with the other force it between the steering wheel bolt and work the ring up and out of the grove it sits in. Next work it all the way up till you have it in your hand, and do not lose. Now pull plastic plate off if you put the wheels straight then it will go on the same way you pulled it off because it's keyed mark it with a felt tip pen so you don’t have to hassle with keying it in again. Next remove the plate and there you will find the horn contacts and the round disk that the connectors push against, so if you need more info just ask on this post.

My 1990 chevy astro mini-van has a loose tilt steering column. I need a diagram and instructions on how to repair it. It also needs a horn kit and new ignition switch any help would be appreciated.

Ok Here is what you need to do this job
    1. #8 tork head wrench
    2. # 3 tork head wrench
    3. New cylinder or lock buy at junk yard or from dealer or lock smith with keys.
    4. Tube of lock tight
    5. steering wheel removal tool Rent it from Schucks
    6. steering wheel spring compression tool Rent it as well.
    7. Two dental picks to remove spring.
Now make thew wheels straight and pull the horn button off should just pop off, next you will see a nut 3/4 inch remove the nut now find the right size of threaded bolts out of the kit and put them in the holes with puller over the steering column remove steering wheel. Forgot to mention remove the metal cup and plastic ring held on by a3 philips screws. This is your horn button, next put the U shaped compression tool on the bolt that you took the nut off and compress the spring 1/4 of an inch to 3/8's of an inch. Now take the picks and get them under steel ring slide the ring over the steering bolt and pull clamp off now remove plastic plate you are now where you can get to the 2 screws on top to tighten the steering wheel. you will see a screw just at the end of the cylinder lock remove the one screw and pull the cylinder lock out, put a drop of lock tight on each screw and tighten down look to see if you see a wire by the lock ring is sticking up it will have a 45 bend in the copper wire there will be two one side by side this has to be pulled out along with the plastic holder that holds the two wires in this also holds the lock in as well as the one screw, install the new lock put lock tight on the screw and install new cylinder lock and key once you have done all of this leave it apart and get back to me so I can tell you how to remove the bueaty ring to get to the screw on the back side.
