About $200 in parts,,,you can not do this at home,,,,,you need special tools to press yoke on and off and even then sometimes they bend,,,not a easy job,,,,,,i am a master tech and worked at saturn for 8 years and i hated doing these

I am also in need of replacing the carrier bearing in my 2003 Saturn Vue V6 AWD.. You mentioned that it can not be done at home, if I were to purchase the part online, can most shops be able to replace it or does it need to be done at a dealership? I am doing all I can to fix the NEVER ENDING problems I've had with my Vue and get rid of it while I can, so this isn't the only thing I will be shelling out money for all at the same time..

Various year Saturn Vue / Pontiac Torrent / Chevy Equinox models use the same carrier bearing - just slight differences in the other components. Having done ALOT of these - I suggest taking to someone with good tools or a local Driveline repair shop..Why? = well depending on the age and amount of rust - the center end yoke may require HEAT and a good press to remove without damaging and distorting..Also there is a "hog ring / Snap Ring" clip that retains this End Yoke - and it can be hard to remove..
If you decide to do yourself - here are some basic steps/hints..
1. BE carefull when removing the driveshaft from the vehicle.. - The front hi-speed CV in the transmission can get stuck and when you pull it out wrong - the cv will fall apart and the internal components are NOT easy to re-assemble correctly!
2. once the shaft is out of the car - MARK all components on the driveshaft that you may remove..This will allow you to retain the driveshaft balance the best you can..Now remove the center uj snap rings and get the uj out (this again is difficult..The normal way of pounding/pressing out a universal can be a challenge with a uj this small.. I have my secrets..:)
3. you need to clamp the shaft with the carrier bearing in a vice - snuggly.
4. IF you get the Carrier bearing kit that includes all parts needed = you need to drive the end yoke towards the driveshaft to relieve pressure between the "hog ring" and the end yoke.Use screwdrivers/pliers - whatever to get that ring out of there..
4a. If you dont get the whole kit -then you need to RE-USE this hog ring. To do this you need to drive the "hog ring" into the groove, work it around...if it wont stay down - drive the end yoke towards it to put a little prese on it...Eventually you can drive the end yoke off...HOWEVER - most are so rusty that you will need a press and ALOT of heat to remove it properly..
...I will stop here..CB kit# with uj and replacement retaing snap ring is 25775162 or 12569884 for 1 uj..

How do I replace my carrier bearing in a 1988 Chevy Silverado extended cab long bed?

I'm guessing your you are referring to the drive shaft center support bearing. Remove u-joint 4 bolts at rear diff., then 2 bolts for center support. Slide driveshaft assembly out of trans. and lay on ground. On either side of the center support, make alignment marks on front and rear half of drive shafts with a crayon or tape (very important for re-assembly). Slide rear half off. Press out center support. Clean sleeve with emery cloth or 400 grit sand paper. Press on new center support, lube splines and reconnect drive shaft halves making sure alignment marks meet. Install assembly and torque bolts.

My carrier bearing is bad in my 96 firebird and I can't find another anywhere. No one has heard of a 2 part driveshaft in my car. Can I replace it with a solid driveshaft? Or do you know where I can find a...

If you mean the carrier bearing on the driveshaft - then you must have a v6 model. I would advise to skip replacing it and instead purchase a 1pc shaft (no carrier bearing). The cb is located near a Hi-Speed CV Joint which make changing the carrier a little difficult.
A new replacement 1pc driveshaft costs about $225.00
The carrier bearing itself may run $40-$140. ( http://www.fortwayneclutch.com/index.php/driveshaft-parts/carrier-support-bearings/gm/1993-2002-chevy-camaro-v6-pontiac-firebird-v6-carrier-bearing-new-f-body-carrier-bearing-for-v6-models-pn-s-3r80-40.html ) - for reference...
You could also check a junk yard for a 1pc oem shaft (most shafts there are bent or have bad uj's and will cost $$ to have fixed )
>1994-2002 f-body models all have the same length from the seal of the transmission to the center of the uj @ the diff.
>when looking for an oem 1pc shaft you will find them in Steel and Aluminum. Slight differences in length when measuring center to center of the universal joints ( 40 7/8" - 40 1/2" ) - but the slip yokes vary in length, weighted / non-weighted..etc = this will make it appear the the shafts are different.
>>watch out for oem shafts with the weighted slip yoke from manual 6spd v8 models. This slip yoke may hit the trans/exhaust mount that is used on v6 models.!!

I have an 03 saturn vue we dained the atifreeze and it had oil in it and its over heating. what do i do?

You have a blown head gasket that will need to be replaced. You are going to have to take everything off the top of the motor, and get the the headers, this also involves removing the exhaust. This is a pretty major job, but someone with good mechanical skills can fix this issue. Unsure what the cost is for the head gaskets, and other gaskets that will need to be replaced during the assembly of the parts.

Mid ship bearing on driveshaft needs replacing. Does the driveshaft have to be balanced after replacement?

Not unless you bend the tube. You will have to disassemble at least one U-joint--keep track of how it came apart and all of the little needle bearings in the cups on the end of the cross--keep everything clean. Fresh grease will help keep things together when putting it all back.

I take it that this is an all wheel drive model. If so ,I recommend have a local repair shop do this, exsperiance is suggested. Ihave watched techs damage the driveshaft yokes. They tend to bend fairly easy on this model.

I just had my wheel bearings replaced on both right and left sides in the front of my 2002 saturn vue. My vue sounds very loud when I am driving. What is it?

Vues are bad for having all hub bearings make noise, check your rear ones.Or the ones you didn't have replaced. If it's all wheel drive check the propshaft center carrier bearing.Common to fail & make noise.hope this helps
