03 Saturn Vue. Bad bearing sound coming from transmission with stethiscope. Could it be a retaining ring came out of its place? Open for suggestions or if this is a common problem anyone has come across. Thanks, Troy

Shawn Villalpando replaces a transmission in a saturn S-series. ... If you remove the pass side you'll need to support the enginebetter. ... Shawn, Have you ever replace a 2003 vue automation with a manual transmission?
I would have the transmission checked, it sounds like it is not shifting. The transmission is controlled by computer and it can sense problems and return fault codes for what it finds on the test and in its memory.
about $200 in parts,,,you can not do this at home,,,,,you need special tools to press yoke on and off and even then sometimes they bend,,,not a easy job,,,,,,i am a master tech and worked at saturn for 8 years and i hated doing these
You may have a clip that is not seating properly in the groove. Try to push the clip into the groove, work your way around the splines. You are just checking to see that it does not stick anywhere in the groove keeping it from compressing. If you replaced the clip yourself it may be spread too far open causing it to hang on the edge of the gear in the transaxle. If so remove the clip and compress it with a pair of pliers so that it is now smaller than the inside of the groove. If these are not helpful, ensure that none of the splines on the shaft or inside the trans are damaged. You may end up replacing the retaining ring it is flattened or distorted. Try applying a bit of bearing grease on the ring to persuade it. Sometimes you will have to use a rubber mallet on the outer end of the axle shaft to get the ring to go into the trans.
Good luck.
Vues are bad for having all hub bearings make noise, check your rear ones.Or the ones you didn't have replaced. If it's all wheel drive check the propshaft center carrier bearing.Common to fail & make noise.hope this helps
Hi all,
I currently own a 2005 saturn vue and also a 2002 saturn vue. My 2005 began making the same whistling sound around 36000 miles, I let it go and let it go. Finally it got so bad I could not deal with it any longer, I have a great mechanic and he automatically point out the carrier bareing I had it replaced and my car is very very peaceful...... :) Hope this helps.
try having someone kill the a/c while you check for the noise. if it stops then check further into the compressor where you said you thought it was coming from. It could be the bearings in the compressor clutch going out.
