It was the cam shaft position sensor Thank you for your help!

It seems that you have thrown parts at the problem without the benefit of any testing... that's called guessing. I strongly recommend that you get a chilton or haynes manual and a digital multi-meter and do some testing. Without the benefit of any testing, my guess is that there is a loose wire or poor connection somewhere or your crankshaft sensor is beginning to fail. But, I would not replace it unless I tested it first!

Since you now mention the check engine light, when you go to buy a manual and meter, have the codes scanned...most of the larger parts stores do that free. There is a list of codes in the manual. That will point you in the right direction. Ignore any O2 sensor codes to start with though as often any other malfunction can change mixture and set that code. Always deal with that code last.

Could be one of about three things. Could be Electronic spark control module, cam sensor or crankshaft position sensor. Is your service engine light on?

Testimonial: "The engine light is on. If I disconnect the battery it goes off untill I drive the car for approx. 3 miles then it comes back on"

It is a good idea as stated above to go ahead and put out the money which is generally around $20.00 for a Haynes or Mitchell repair manual from your local auto store and like stated above to purchase a ohm meter for any-wheres around $15.00 to $20.00. They will have trouble shooting for your specific problem generally in the books and will walk you through testing in Laymen terms so you can understand it.

Your Jeep has what's known as the delayed start, no check engine light problem. The Jeep will not start until the check engine light comes on, on the dashboard. Next time it cranks but will not start, look at the dashboard to see if the check engine light is illuminated. If it's not lit up, then your Jeep does have that problem and your Jeep ecu is in need of repair or replacement. There are components inside the ecu that are going bad and will continue to get worse, eventually leading to a permanent no start condition. There are ecu repair services and replacement ecus on ebay.

Cranks, but won't start

Could be the crank sensor is bad but If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking at the times when it won't start, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what controls that. It's likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem typical of early 90's jeeps. Repair or replacement services for your jeep ECU are available on ebay.
