What would have caused my 2006 Chevy Impala to make a knocking noise at a red light as I was taking off and then die

Does the engine crank over when trying to start? If not, it may have internal problems. Did any warning lights come on before it died? Try hooking up a scanner and see what the sensors are reading like if any cylinders were misfiring etc. Is there any oil in the engine or coolant in the radiator?

Dies when put in gear and knocking noise from engine

Knocking noise usually indicated low oil, dying with knocking when put in gear usually means NO oil. Check oil level and fill it. If that works you need to check the oil level every day to see if it is leaking and how fast it is leaking.

I have a chirping noise that starts when I start the car. It used to die down as I would drive, now it's louder and does not go away as before.

The chirping noise is probably a worn belt
You should check all pulleys and belt tensioner for alignment and or looseness
The knocking noise could be an internal engine noise
Which is common for the little 2L engines and I'm just guessing that's what engine you have
Make sure to use a good quality oil filter to prevent oil drain back and also the proper weight of oil
Too thick of oil can also cause this until engine warms up
You should use 5w30 or 10w30
The owners manual may say and sometimes the oil cap will give the recommended weight of oil

I had oil change in my saturn 2001 sl after the oil and security and airbag lights started to turn on after 2 days car started making a knocking sound while driving. and it died on me when im at a stop...

best advice here is to ask a local mechanic to have a look as engine shouldnt have started knocking with teh new oil in unless someone has put tranny fluid into teh engine or something stupid ,the lights for the airbag shouldnt be connected but the oil light ?? Do not drive car untill a mechanic has come around and checked it out for you though as this oil light coming on and knocking noise is serious

I just bought a 95 corvette and yesterday I heard a knocking noise and my light came on saying low oil. I turned off the car, when I'm stopped it acts like it wants to die. I almost did not get it started...

The lack of oil led to a lack of lubrication which caused a bearing failure that made the knocking noise you heard. Once bearings begin to fail, the decline is very rapid. Typically within minutes. The reason it is acting like it is trying to die, and was hard to start, is the bearing(s) is seizing on the crankshaft. Most likely the rod bearing is the culprit, but it really doesn't matter. The engine needs to come out and inspected right away, replacing all parts as necessary. Continued operation of the damaged engine will only cause further damage and increase repair costs.
