94 pathfinder v6 auto 4x4 .engine died nuw wont start ,turns over and tries to fire,maybe the timing belt broke?if so would the valve train be damaged Thanks Barry

WHAT FUEL DOES IT BURN? AND IS FUEL OLD?
I can't guess country yet (wires vary by that, colors and laws)
noT turn over means , engine cranks ok(starter turns) and crank shaft turns, but will not start nor stay running or does start but stalls fast.

IF ENGINE IS GOOD. (I'd never assume it was I do tests to learn that)
if gasoline (petrol) check spark on all spark plugs..
if spark timing is off, the cam belt slipped (a 100k mile service point)
no car with 29 year old spark parts will run, impossible that.
if spark is good and test spray fuel works we attack fuel
1,2,3 good engine, good spark work fuel last.
a fuel pressure test is next.

EGR valve stuck open
and or IAC valve stuck closed, try cranking with 5% foot throttle added.

I have 94 s 10..4.3 v6. it does the same thing have replaced fuel pump and filter,ignition module,cap rotor plugs wires,coil,ground strap...driving down the road jus dies like the key got shut off....for a while when troubleshooting through the parts you could get it to restart.....now when it dies it cranks really hard when trying to restart..ive checked the timeing its fine....if i wait a few min it will usually start...sometimes it will show a check engine light sometimes not......never know when it will happen sometimes jus down the the road from the house sometimes 100miles down the road......sometimes three times in a mile sometimes not for weeks at a time..Wtf...Im ready to shoot it like a lame horse....its a shame too its a sharp lil truck thats a two owner and never spent a night outside in its life...i knew the original owner ...i bought it with 90,000 on it it only has 148,000 now and still looks like new...

The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL THE DIAGNOSIS & TESTING IS COMPLETED.

What size engine the v6 or 4 cyl..sounds like maybe a timing chain or belt broke if you say it sounds different..Check see if got fire or fuel injection control

engine size? 4 cylinder? 3.0L V6? 4.0L V6?

you said that it has been started several times,do you mean the engine fires and runs........?

I hate to say this, but it sounds like your timing belt broke. Take the distributor cap off and see if the rotor turns when you turn the engine over, if it doesn't turn then your timing belt is broken and you may have bent valves too.

You're probably in pretty good shape the valves on that engine have a short lift and, fast duration.
Put on a new belt and, pressure test each cylinder before you start the engine up.

If your timing belt broke while driving, there WILL be engine damage. Valves will not be moving in response to your pistons continuing to move. I hope that it is not your timing belt. Check your ignition module, first, that's easier.
