How does your transmission fluid look and smell? If it is dark and smells a little burnt, the transmission is very likely toast. If it is still clear and red, you should let a transmission specialist diagnose it.

I just replaced my throw out bearing for my 1999

it sounds like the shifter is not back in the proper spot try taking it out and reassembling it.

I bought a 1998 Saturn SL1. During the 1 month warrenty I noticed the car would not down shift into 2nd gear. The dealership did some work on the drivetrain and then it would downshift into second. But...

Check the fluid level in you slave cylinder. If the fluid is low or there is air in the system it can cause hard shifting. If everything is ok it is problably the syncros.

my car is a 2002 saturn sl1 i was woundering if you can help me with my car when i drive on the freeway up hills my car goes from fast to slow so i have to shift from 5th gear to 2nd or 3rd gear and i have to go like 40 mph on a 65 mph speed limit all the way home how do i fix that problem

No second gear. 2001 sl1 manual. goes into 1st, 3rd,4th,5th, and reverse. Any ideas?

possible stripped 2nd gear syncromesh. Used or rebuild transmission required

1992 Honda Accord...My automatic Transmisson will not shift on its own it stays in 2nd gear. When shift it manually I can put in 1st and shift up to 2nd...or somedays i put it in 1st and have to shift up...

this covers the symptoms and the repairs. to me it sounds like it could be the tcu. maybe a blown capacitor. hope this helps. and goodluck.

I have a 96 sl1. I only have 1st,3rd and 5th gear. If I try 2nd 4th and Reverse, it's like they aren't even there. Is it my linkage cable? And should I get a new transmission?

This does sound more like a bad cable. You'll need to find the shift tower on the transmission and have someone move the shift so you can see if it moves when trying to put it in the bottom gears.

The cables attach near the back of the transaxle. You may be able to see them under the brake lines. You will probably need to remove the air intake from the throttle body to get good access.

Saturn SW1 will not shift into 2nd, 4th, or reverse

no hydralic fluid in the resvoir look for the resvoir on the fire wall of the drivers side if its empty well fill it back up lol not sure if the sw1 has this but ive had too fix this problem before

Manual transmission correct? 1,3,5 work by pulling on a cable attached to the transmission. 2,4,R work by pushing on a cable attached to the transmission. you have a shift cable problem. whatever is supposed to push the shifter cable is not working. it also could be a problem where the shift cable mounts to the levers on the transmission. do a good visual inspection of the cables where they attach to the transmission while somebody attempts to shift into 2 or 4.
