The type of water put in should not cause a leak. usually if there is a leak it can come from a split hose, a cracked or damaged antifreeze reservoir or a leaking radiator. try and use a leak "finder" an autoparts store may have one. pour the "finder" in and it usually turns the coolant and water a bright color. if you see it oozing out anywhere you might just ahve damaged parts

If you live in a cold climate and put in enough water it could freeze and split hoses, etc. If in hot climate too much water could boil and cause a steam rupture somewhere (coolant also prevents boiling). If it is not a hose or hose fitting that is leaking it may be a leaking head gasket, in which case it will get worse and steam out of the engine and exhaust, and cost a bundle to fix. Bottom line, never put water in there unless it is an emergency.
