Usually if the magnet in the sensor comes out it destroys the cam position shaft,(it should have a half moon shape when u remove the sensor from the cam pos/oil pump drive. if the half moon is damaged or missing u must replace the cam pos/oil pump drive, and yes it is timed with the engine. wot i have done is try to locate where the half moon was on the drive it usually leave a trace of where it was. now index where the half moon is at remove hold down bolt and remove the driver assy. install the new drive, clock the half moon shaft to match the one u just removed once u get the half moon shaft where u want it and the oil pump rod alines and the whole housing is down install the hold down clamp. now to get rid if that check engine lite youll have to plug a scanner in and look at the live data adjust the cam position till u have plus or minus 2 degrees

Where can I find the Crank and Cam shaft sensor for a Lincoln La 2003 V6?

Assuming you actually meant a Lincoln LS, the Camshaft Position Sensor is located on the front of the engine, just below the driver's side (in US) valve cover gasket. The crankshaft position sensor is located near the front passenger side of the engine block, a bit above where the alternator is mounted. Be aware though that both of these sensors, if bad, would provide very different symptoms. Is there a particular symptom you are trying to solve through replacing these?

Installing a camshaft sensor

Replacing the Sensor 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable...just like on every other installation 2. Detach the CMP sensor connector next. 3. Remove the CMP sensor retaining bolt and remove the CMP sensor

Now to install:

1. Clean the CMP sensor surface and ensure that the O-Ring is in place. 2. Position the CMP sensor into the engine and tighten the retaining bolt to 71-106 inch lbs. 3. Attach the CMP sensor connector 4.Connect the negative battery cable.

Sounds like the Crankshaft sensor is damaged and needs to be replaced.
The Camshaft position sensor works along with the Crankshaft position sensor.
Determining the timing and injectors’ pulse, to deliver fuel to the cylinders.
The Camshaft position sensor is a hall sensor, which it triggered by a magnet in the Camshaft.

On 4 cyl(2.4) models the Camshaft position sensor is located to the left side of the timing cover.
On the V6(3.1 & 3.4) it’s located at the front of the engine block (passenger side), below the power steering pump.
Check the terminals for breaks and looseness, repair if needed.

Here is the plug indentification picture.
The wires are different for the 4cyl and V6, Please note below.
Though the plugs are the same three wire connectors.

Plug is as listed : 1 - Camshaft position sensor signal on 4 cyl,
12 volt supply on the V6
2 – Sensor ground 4 cylinder,
Camshaft position sensor signal on the V6
3 – 12 volt supply on the 4 cylinder,
sensor ground on the V6

First check for voltage and ground circuits from the PCM.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the Camshaft sensor and connect the positive lead (on the wiring harness) of the voltmeter to the red wire(#3) on the 4 cyl and the red/white wire on the V6(#1).

Connect the negative to the pink/black wire on the 4 cyl(#2), or black on the V6(#3).
Turn the key on, the voltmeter should read 12 volts, if not check the wiring to the PCM.
If the circuits are good, have the PCM checked out by a Dealer or other properly trained shop.

To check the operations;
Reconnect the Camshaft position sensor, using a probe to back probe the brown/white wire terminal of the camshaft PS. Plug locations on4 cyl (#1) and theV6(#2)
Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the probe and the negative to a good engine ground.
Turn the key on, the voltmeter should read approx 10 volts.

*Rotating the engine by hand with a breaker bar attached to the crank pulley. Watching the voltmeter, the voltage should remain a steady 10volts then quickly drop to zero and back to 10vlts as the magnet passes the sensor.
If the tests results are incorrect then replace the camshaft position sensor.

* Rotating the engine slowly, and at least two full revolutions of the engine for accurate results.

Camshaft sensor Replacement

On the 4 cylinder
- Disconnect the electrical connector
- Remove the camshaft position sensor-mounting bolt and pull the sensor out of the camshaft cover.
- Replace the “O” ring and lightly lubricate it with clean engine oil.
- Install in the reverse of those procedures.

On V6
- Remover the drive belt.
- Remove the power steering unit but don’t disconnect the hoses, just lay it aside.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the harness; paying attention to the route the wires are in.
- Remove the camshaft ps mounting bolt and pull the sensor out of the block.
- Install in reverse procedure.

If the sensor flange breaks off and you cant remove the CPS, try screwing a heavy screw into the top of the sensor and pulling it out with plyers/vise-grips.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya

No oil pressure, camshaft position sensor error,

Yes, the sensor is in small housing the goes in the hole where the distributor used to go. That also drives the oil pump so don't drive it you'll ruin the engine. It's located down under the throttle body, near transmission end of the engine.

SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) REQUIRED Description Tool Number Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A
svh~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Prior to removal of the camshaft position sensor (CMP sensor) (12126), set cylinder No.1 to zero degrees top dead center (TDC) of compression stroke. Note the position of the camshaft position sensor electrical connector. The installation procedure requires that the connector be located in the same position.
Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring connector from camshaft position sensor.
  1. Remove camshaft position sensor retaining screws and camshaft position sensor from camshaft position sensor housing.
  1. If removing camshaft position sensor housing from the cylinder blocks (6010), proceed with Removal Step 5. If not removing camshaft position sensor housing, proceed to installation Step 6.
  1. Remove hold-down clamp (12270) (bolt and washer assembly).
  1. Remove camshaft position sensor housing from cylinder blocks.
Installation
  1. svh~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: A special service tool such as Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A must be used to position the synchronizer assembly prior to installation of the camshaft position sensor. Failure to follow this procedure will result in improper camshaft position sensor alignment. This will result in the fuel system being out of time with the engine, possibly causing engine damage.
Attach Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A as follows:
    1. Engage camshaft position sensor housing vane into the radial slot of the tool.
    1. Rotate tool on camshaft position sensor housing until tool boss engages notch in camshaft position sensor housing.
  1. Pre-lubricate synchronizer gear with engine oil meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C123-A prior to assembly.
  1. Install camshaft position sensor housing so that drive gear engagement occurs. Locate camshaft position sensor electrical connector in the pre-removal position.
  1. Install hold-down clamp (washer and bolt) and tighten bolt to 19-30 Nm (14-22 lb-ft).
  1. Remove Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A.
  1. svh~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: If camshaft position sensor electrical connector is not positioned properly, DO NOT reposition the connector by rotating the camshaft position sensor housing. This will result in the fuel system being out of time with the engine, possibly causing engine damage. Remove the camshaft position sensor housing and repeat installation procedure, beginning with Step 1.
Install camshaft position sensor and retaining screws. Tighten screws to 1.5-4.0 Nm (14-35 lb-in).
  1. Connect engine control sensor wiring connector to camshaft position sensor.
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
