Maybe a little late here but i have a fix for this after turning down my dealers generous offer of a 750gbp fix i did some extensive googling and found this.... With your ignition on open the tailgate using the catch inside then turn off ignition and disconnect the battery for a minute. Reconect the battery and turn on ignition and let the warning lights go through their cycle. With the ignition still on shut the tailgate and hey Presto should be as good as new.

Amazing - I was quoted 520euro with a possibility of needing another part for 800euro - this was in the Honda Service Centre in Dublin, Ireland. Your fix is just brilliant thank you so much!

OMG you are amazing!! Thank you so much, my tailgate failed after the battery in my key went flat...I used this method and as you said 'Hey Presto' worked first time. Now my dogs are extremely happy as they get to go out in the car again!

I had this issue and This method works...i have had this issue pop in up few times recently...not sure it's due to my headlamp light not working and replacing or one of my brake lights not working. But every time I try this method it resets the warning light and tail gate works perfectly fine. I need to keep an eye on what triggers the tailgate light to come on. Any advice or tips please share. Thank you again for this fantastic solution! Happy Christmas and New Year!!

My tailgate became faulty after I transported a settee with the tailgate up. I don't think the system liked the fact that it was trying to lock it, but couldn't. It was alright fot a couple of days, but appeared to have a delayed failure and completely failed at the worst possible time when in France with a noitful of dogs! I seem to have seen on a another discussion thread that these tailgate fail of you drive off with it not securely closed.
This method certainly did the trick, however it did fail one more time a week later. I reset it and its now been fine for months.
    Thanks for this great help.

Why is my tailgate on my 2003 Honda Accord not closing shut

There are a number of possible reasons and the most common are a buildup of debris or a foreign object(s) around the striker preventing the tailgate closing fully, long term maladjustment causing excessive wear or breakage of the catch or water ingress into the catch and operating mechanism causing seizure or partial seizure.

Does the 2009 CR-V have a door jamb sensor for the tailgate? Tailgate light is on, on dash. Doors won't lock with FOB or while moving. Tailgate closes, locks and unlocks, it just thinks it's open.

Sounds like a bad switch on the tailgate. Open your tailgate and look for a switch. When you find it...press it in completely and see if the sensor light goes off. If so, replace it.

Accord 2009 tourer tailgate wont open,

If there is no lever that means that the thing you grab to open it is an electrical switch. Your possibilities are a bad tailgate release switch, a bad latch assembly, bad latch motor (most likely integrated into the latch) or lack of power from a blown fuse. First check the fuses. Next make sure all the doors are unlocked and check for power and ground to switch and latch. If the vehicle has been in any accidents in that area you can also check for broken wires in the harness that runs to that area.

My my honda accored tourer tailgate will not open both manually or power assisted

My Honda Accord 2004 tailgate would not open with keyfob or manually, tailgate light on dashboard on. Took it to Honda in Colchester expecting large bill but they fixed it quickly by disconnecting battery for 30 secs - with ignition key removed (important). Reconnected battery, put ignition key in, dashboard lights cycled, then opened tailgate by hand. Checked it's not sticking. Then used keyfob and it works! No problems since. Apparentlly it's a cold weather thing. No charge - full marks to Honda's Glynn Hopkins of Colchester.

Auto tailgate warning light is on dash board but tailgate closed.

I have a similar problem, my tailgate stopped working with the outside handle and the remote but can be opened manually from the inside. I don't have an alarm so there is no problem with that but did you get a solution for the tailgate problem that I could try?

2005 Honda Odyssey Tailgate Problem

Try to reset the tailgate by removing the no.7 (7.5 amp) fuse in the underdash fuse box. Open and close the tailgate manually, reinstall the fuse, and try the open tailgate button. If that doesn't work you would have take it to the dealer, where they can check for DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes). Honda Al
