I have an 04 avalanche when i go to start it it does not start on the first try but as soon as you try the second time it starts any ideas what it may be

sounds like a security issue, disconnect the neg terminal of the battery for 5 minutes, after you reconnect the battery use the door key to lock and unlock the drivers door. try to restart
Testing the fuel system for pressure an leak down , hooking up a factory or professional type scanner an checking engine sensor data , doing injector flow testing , testing electrical circuits ,Test the fuel injectors resistance with a ohmmeter. Your best bet take it to a qualified diagnostic technician . A lot of parts could cause your problem (sensors ) . Turn on the ignition with engine OFF. Try to start engine, then release the key to ON Wait 10 or more minutes till SECURITY TELLTALE turns OFF. Turn OFF the ignition, wait 5 seconds. Repeat this procedure 3 more times, it takes 30 minutes. You must turn the ignition key OFF before starting the engine. To be on the safe side OFF means take the key off, and hold on your hand for 5 seconds. If you missed something visit GM dealer, and they gladly will provide you a print out of this procedure.
no not a typical ignition problem. sounds like bad connection. yes check cables first. then check under hood fuse box. check engine ground. check little red box under hood by battery. check start cable connections. nice truck sorry to hear of the problem
