Class A motorhome with a 1991 ford 460 won't start solenoid clicks and nothing happens all battery connections are good, tight and clean. Not sure what to do next to narrow down the problem. is it the solenoid or the starter? the selected product was the closest to what my engine is.
I had the same problem, sometimes the 460 inj would not start only startrelais ticked. Once i checked en cleaned all the 5 cables on the start relais i had a long time no problems, allready orderen new starter en relais. At the beginning this summer had the same problems, sometimes only clicking of the relais but no turning of the startermotor/engine. Replaced the starter motor but did not start at all, once in 10 - 20 times engine starts immediately. Would replace the relais and discovered a broken cable from 2 i thought blue or purple cables going to the starter relais, repaired the cable and problem solved! That was my problem :)
Make sure the connections are Clean and tight on the solenoid first. The solenoid itself has rather small studs
holding those big cables. If checking those connections does not solve the problem then you need to crawl under the rig and check the cable on the starter if tight the starter will need to be replaced.
If your solenoid is in the engine compartment, you can try to jump the two posts with a screwdriver or other metal tool. just touch both posts at the same time. If the engine turns, then your solenoid is bad. If it doesn't turn then your starter is either bad or the connections at the starter are dirty.
