Help! I have a 98 Saturn SL2 that has a problem with the electrical system. The car will not turn over and almost all of the electrical system is dead (no lights, horn, power locks, radio etc.). I think that it has something to do with the RKE or factory security. The battery is good. This has happened before and in some cases it comes back after sitting for awhile. The last time it happened I removed an aftermarket security system and that seemed to solve the problem for quite a few months. This time my wife was driving it -- parked it fine and went back to start it minutes later and it was dead.
Sounds exactly like my 1999 SL2 which had "burning and arching" in the fuse box. Car one day be fine the next I'd take it to the store, come back in 10 minutes and wouldn't start, no radio, no power windows, no keyless entry remote, no rear defrost and even locking doors from inside power buttons it sounded odd. This fixed the problem by replacing the fuse box.
