The clunking noise you're hearing from the rear of your 2006 Mazda 6 after installing new shocks could be caused by a few different issues. Here are a few possibilities:
Loose or worn suspension components: If any of the suspension components are loose or worn, they can make a clunking noise when the vehicle moves over bumps or uneven surfaces.
Misaligned or damaged control arm bushings: The control arm bushings can become misaligned or damaged, which can cause a clunking noise when the vehicle is driven.
Worn sway bar links: The sway bar links connect the sway bar to the suspension and if they are worn, they can cause a clunking noise when the vehicle is driven.
Improper installation of the new shocks: The clunking noise may be caused by improper installation of the new shocks, such as not tightening the bolts properly.
It's best to have a professional mechanic take a look and diagnose the issue. They will be able to identify the specific cause of the noise and make the necessary repairs.
check that the exhaust system is fitted correctly and all the rubber straps are in good condition. Check for loose shock absorber mounting rubbers. Have the rear suspension checked out for broken/ failed suspension point rubbers.
If it's making a clunk noise when hitting bumps, check the mounting plates and bushings that hold the rear end to the frame. GM made these plates out of aluminum and the bolts that go through the plate and the bushings rot out and the rear end slams against the frame.
HI, this noise can be caused by worn shocks, even if the bushings look good, you can remove one of them and check if is hard to constracts ,if not they must be replaced,
Clunking noise in the rear of the vehicle is a broad statement. When is the vehicle doing it? Is it all the time or just over bumps? Is it happening only going around curves? Is it a constant bump that speeds up and slows down with the vehicle speed. You would be supprised how many clunking noises can come from the driveline not the suspension. It could be anything from a bushing to your rear differential getting ready to grenade.
