What kind of vehicle? Jonah sound about right. If there is a restriction or excessive pressure the tank will be hard to fill.

SOUND LIKE EVAP SYSTEM FAILURE.CAUSING EXCESSIVE FUEL PRESSURE VAPORS BUILT UP IN FUEL TANK.TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO FIX.THIS IS A LITTLE TRICK TO GET GAS IN TANK BACK OUT SPOUT A LITTLE NOT MUCH TO LET VAPORS ESCAPE WHILE YOU PUMPING GAS.YOU NEED TO FIX.FUEL PRESSURE VAPORS WILL BUILD UP ENOUGH TO BLOW UP FUEL TANK ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS.

Unable to put gas in the car

Can I have the year--make--model--engine size? The air in the tank has to go somewhere or it will burp back up the fill pipe and shut the pump off. There may be a vent tube that is blocked or something going on with evap system, maybe both. Did you try different gas pump?

2002 Bonneville My gas gauge wasn't working right

it may be that you didn't run out of fuel but the fuel pump quit-check the fuse-you more than likely need a new fuel pump-the fuel pump and the fuel level sensor are one unit in the fuel tank-cheers Denny

Car ran outof gas. put gas in, would not start. checked fuel pump, is pumping fuel. replaced fuel filter, replaced plugs, replaced wires, checked for pressure on fuel rail valve, got it (did not check...

Perhaps your fuel injectors are not opening properly to release the air pressure in the fuel rail and the fuel is unable to get in. With the vehicle off, remove the cap from the Schrader valve (the same kind of valve used on tires) in the fuel rail, then depress the pin in the center of the valve with a small screwdriver. CAUTION: this may be under high pressure (some vehicles have 90 PSI systems), and there probably will be gasoline in there. Make sure there are no ignition sources present (no smoking!) and wear safety glasses. If you get only air or nothing comes out, put the cap back on the valve and try to start the car one more time. If that doesn't work, your fuel pump was probably damaged when the tank went dry.

Sounds like you have something stuck in your gas tank maybe someone put something in your gas tank perhaps you might consider a good flash light and a pen open the cap insert the pen hold tight and put flash light in filler neck flap hole to see what kind of obstacle you have stuck in your filler nozzle neck if your unable to see anything you might consider taking the car to certified technician for service to you clogged gas filler neck.

Where is the fuel pump rlay located on a GMC 95 safari van

Most car manufactures now put the gas pump in the gas tank. The gas cools the pump. But don't take the gas tank off, if you need a gas pump, one can be installed just like the old pumps, just disconnect the old pump and put a new one on.

I am smelling gas when the heater is on really bad and smell gas when the heater is off, checked Oxygen censor, checked all plugs for black soot, checked tail pipe for black soot and also had a half tank...

You have to have a leak somewhere. Put a large pc of cardboard under your car overnight. In the morning take notice of where the stain is on the cardboard.

Cannot get fuel in the car using epa nozzle

Check the gas tank vent tube, it must be bent or blocked, so it is not allowing air to escape as gas enters the tank, resulting in the pump kicking off, and being unable to put fuel in the el camino.

Low Fuel Pressure on Landrover Freelander TD4

From 53 reg onwards, diesel pump is under R.H. rear wheel arch, hidden by the plastic wheel arch liner. Older versions have combined fuel pump/sender in the tank (under R.H part of rear seat).
You should be able to hear a faint purr from the pump when ignition is turned on but engine not yet running.

Unable to put gas into the tank. Pump keeps shutting off like the tank is full, it's not.

There is a filter on the tank vent that is plugged. It is not letting the air escape from the tank during fillup causing positive pressure which will will shut off the gas pump. I don't know where it is on your model but some are under the back behind the fuel tank. It is usually a 6" square plastic box with a hose on it and louvers on the sides.
