That is because the gas cap is part of the evap system and is designed to be fully secure when the engine is running. The car's computer senses the loose or missing gas cap and produces a troubleshooting error code which trips the check engine light.

To turn the light off, go to a local mechanic or autoparts store and ask them to clear the code.

Some vehicles will do that and that is normal your fuel tank has to be sealed. Many times the fuel cap will go bad and will register a check engine light with the cap in place in this case the fuel cap would have to be replaced.

This is normal, you should not have engine running when re-fueling, fuel gauge moves very slowly if key is on while fueling, turn key off and then on and should read proper level.

Driving home last night... gas cap light comes on. I tightened gas cap, restarted car and light goes off...started car this morning and now check engine light on

The "gas cap light" actually does not mean the gas cap is loose or defective. It is telling you there is a leak in the fuel system somewhere, usually a vapor line or stuck or defective valve. Not very often is it the gas cap that causes the light to come on.Time for a scan and a smoke test to fine the leak.

Gas cap indicaytor light came on. Changed cap and made sure it was tight but indicator light still comes on

The gas cap light is a generic light that indicates an emission problem. Usually a vacuum/pressure leak within the system. The gas cap is usually the first thing to check, however may not be the problem. There are numerous sensors and lines that control the vacuum/pressure/ of the fuel vapors and one of these is loose/disconnected/defective causing this light to come on. I would recommend inspecting hoses under the hood for any that may be loose/disconnected. You may also require a scan test to view sensor data to isolate the source of the light

Gascap light comes on every time I start the car.

You will need to get the code befoe anyone can begin to diagnose this, There are about 5 parts that can cause this problems. The gas cap is one of them. If anyone has been uner the hood just pryor to this happening its possible they left a vacuum hose off or maybe broke one.

If this car is really an 07 then this being an emission issue you are covered under warrenty. Take it to the dealer.

Check engine light came on. Code P1456.

Did you change the gas cap with a Honda gas cap? Tighten it at least three clicks?
Also, Honda recommends that you never top off the tank when getting gas (only go to the click-off of the pump; otherwise you can get back flow into the system that will cause the code).
Tightening or replacing the cap will not immediately cause the light to go off; it can take up to three days of driving for the light to reset.
To check if your readiness codes (emission system) are set, turn the ignition to ON (II), without starting the engine. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will come on for 20 seconds. If it then goes off, the readiness codes are set. If it blinks 5 times, the readiness codes are not set.
You can, of course, try resetting your engine light to see if it will come back on (which it probably will). I believe the procedure is:
Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.

Hope this helps you.

Engine light just started to come on. The oil level checks out.

check the gas cap...i"ve found that a loose cap will set off the check light...if you dont have a computer to recall or reset the codes i believe it"ll just go away after you drive it for a couple days on its on once corrected.

Malfunction symbol appearing

Does it look like an engine? It means you have a problem with the engine. Those vans don't have a low coolant sensor.
