My tail lights and dash lights are going on and off simultanously. why?

unusual but yes...both bulbs can blow out simultaneously...

Most likely reason is that the tail light fuse blew out. The dash lights have a seperate fuse, but it is wired in series with the tail lights, so that if the tail light fuse blows, the instrument cluster lights also go out. The dash lights going out is sort of a warning to let you know to check your tail lights

Have you checked your tail light's as well? Chevrolet's dash light's wont work if you have blown a tail light fuse. Their way of letting you know you have no tail lights. check the tail light fuse and go from there. Good luck..

Find online manual, look for resettable breakers. If that is not it, it could be a rubbed bare wire. That gets tricky to find and is not much fun but not expensive usually.

The dash light are on the same circuit as the tail lights as a safety feature. You know when the tail light are out because the dash lights go out when they do. Check the fuse box. If the lights are going out and coming back on the fuse or wiring to that fuse may be loose.

Replace the fuse. Most of the time when the tail light fuse is blown it will go un-noticed. This is why they combine the instrument cluster lighting, and tail lights on the same fuse. That way if the dash lights are out you know the tail lights must be out also.

Check -all- fuses. Might have missed one that's bad.

Thats indicating that a tail light is out not a back up light. You will need to check those rear lights closer.Your check engine light will need to be checked with a scanner for the codes and go from there.I don't think one has anything to do with the other. Hope this helps, Thanks ,Dan
