Car stalls when put in 'drive'

My 1997 nissan maxima (160k miles) stalls as soon as I put it in 'drive'. It starts up just fine, however, if I leave it in neutral and rev the engine a bit(up to 2k rpm) it begins to lose revs. It only stalls some of the time when I put it in reverse. These problems began immediately after I had the oil changed but I don't know if these problems are a result of something the mechanics bumped or unplugged while under the hood.
The car began losing revs on the drive home from the oil change shop and stalled outright a couple of times as I accelerated from a stop. I made it home but now I can't get the car to move 2 ft. without stalling out completely. I first though it may have been the 5+ year old battery and replaced that to no avail...
Any suggestions?

Check your air horn (big rubber boot) to the throttle body. It may have a crack on the underside and when you put it in drive and the engine torques to that side the crack opens and causes it to die.

My Nissan starts and runs when I put the car into drive it stalls....as soon as I put it in reverse it stalls

Generally there is something wrong that makes the engine too weak for that resistance of putting it in gear.
That could be a misfiring cylinder, an intake manifold leak or cracked hose, a bad sensor like temperature, etc.
Does it idle smoothly?
It is better after it warms up?

But another possibility is that the tranmission is not going into the right gear. Try putting it into low instead of drive.
Of the torque converter bearing could be siezed, and not allowing the normal slippage it needs.

My nissan maxima stalls

Every answer here is wrong. This has been driving people nuts for 15 years. The problem is the engine wiring harness which has a bend going past the right strut tower, Nissan had a service bulletin on this in September of 1999, Google it, it's in pdf.
