Turn the heat knob all the way to hot (highest) setting and when it starts blowing heat you can turn it down to a comfortable temperature
At least that's how mine works

your heater core is bad, or the little temp control.door is hung open. i would take it to someone familiar with removing dash panels like a radiator shop or a dealer.

I just recently changed out my thermostat and I noticed this morning I am not getting hot air. The temp gauge is no lower than what it has been in the past. What should I try?

Let me see if I got this straight. The blower motor is blowing but when selector switch is on heat no hot air comes in from blower correct?
Were you getting hot air before you changed the thermostat?
If you answered yes to both questions then here are your options:

a )incorrect water coolant mixture ( can't use straight antifreeze)
b)incorrect thermostat or incorrectly installed
c) air in the coolant system (must be bleed according to specs.
Now if blower is not blowing at all thats a different situation. Let me know what happens.
