Himself has tried to replace the battery on the 03 frelander. managed to get the top bit holding the battery off but the bolt holding th batery into the clip won't undo - just spins around any ideas?!

First you need a 10mm socket and Ratchet take the two bolts off of the top of the headlight and after those come out you can pull the headlight away from the car a little bit and unplug the plug being sure not to break the little tab that holds it on tightly then turn the ring that surround the bulb that should pull right out then the bulb will pull out itself when you're installing the bulb do not touch the glass of that bulb then reverse the order of taking the headlight out .

Make sure key is off. Remove battery negative terminal, then the positive terminal. Now remove battery holder-some have a hold-down bolt near the bottom of battery, or clamps to remove. Take old battery out and replace with new, and secure the holding fixture. Attach positive terminal first, and last the negative terminal. Make sure cable ends are clean-use a battery post cleaner tool to get the posts and cable ends as clean as possible.

Heres's the procedure on how to remove and install starter for your 03 Expedition. First remove the battery cables from the battery. Remove the electrical connections to the starter and label for replacement. There are 3 bolts - 13mm. The bottom bolt is also the ground terminal, therefore you will need a deep socket for that bolt. The other two are accessable ideally with about a 7" extension to your socket wrench. The top bolt is on the top of the starter and you could fit your hand up there to feel it and place the socket. The 3rd bolt is between the bottom and top bolts. Remove the 3 bolts and the starter falls right out.

Sounds as if the battery has just stuck to the rubber gasket that it sits on, have you tried a bit of good old brute force? Try giving it a move from side to side and let me know how you do...

If battery light is on replace batteries had same problem and my bateries were les than year also. Once i changed bateries hasnt stop since

Check all grounds ie motor to body ground strap connections for corossion, battery to motor ground, battery to body ground. You have to check under bolt to see if there is coeossion. Bad grounding can cause all sorts of electrical problems

there is a metal bar running over top of the battery. remove the 3 bolts and remove the bar. disconnect the battery terminals - first negative, then positive. at the bottom of the battery, there is a hold down block help in placed by a 13mm bolt. remove this. battery should now pull out. place new battery into position, place hold down block into position, reinstall 13mm bolt. reconnect terminals - positive first, then negative. place the tubular bar back into position and reinstall the 3 bolts. good luck!

disconnect the battery post....remove the bolts holding the starter and then disconnect the wires to the starter.. install in reverse order

You do not have to remove the wheel unless you have th 6 cylinder engine (2.3l). Then yes you do:

Disconnect Negative Battery Cable
Remove the air cleaner and hose from between the air breather/cleaner and throttle housing
Relax the belt tensioner off the belt and pry off the belt
Remove the right front wheel, black belt cover/protector, and the wheel hub nut and slide the hub off the drive shaft/outer Cv joint
Disconnect the alternator, remove the alternator/air intake hose, 2 bolts that hold the alternator in and remove it through right-hand wheel housing.
