I bought an 89 Camry and I'm wondering how to fix the overdrive switch. The manual doesn't tell me anything. The o/d button will not stay pressed in and there is no o/d indicator light coming on or off. It just doesn't seem to work and seems stuck off as i really can't get past 3rd gear. I couldn't see anything myself but is there a fuse or relay i'm missing? I tried to pull the shift knob off to see if I could fix the button but it didn't wanna come all the way off and I didn't want to break it or anything. A little help please..
SOURCE: abs annd brake light stays on
Your brakes would require some testing because there are a couple things that could go wrong that would give you a hard pedal. With regards to your abs light and handbrake light staying on you should get your codes read to give you more info. But they share a common fault. One of the reasons they could both be on is because your skid control ECU is faulty. Otherwise it could be two separate issues.

Its right above the fuse box. You need to remove the plastic kick panel to see them
SOURCE: how to use the overdrive on the auto.transmission.
the overdrive button on your automatic transmission is for cruising on the highway basically like having another gear for better economy careful not to use it when your not on the highway because lugging the car in overdrive when its not needed will cause higher fuel consumption other than that you should have no problems just get out on the highway and push and away you go

That solenoid is inside the trans. The fact you were towing something heavy had nothing to do with the failure. You need to take it to a shop that can check the cvi's(clutch volume index) & some other critical components.

Check to see that each bulb in the daytime running light circuit works, replace as required. Good luck, Jim
