89 Camry A/T Overdive Repair

I bought an 89 Camry and I'm wondering how to fix the overdrive switch. The manual doesn't tell me anything. The o/d button will not stay pressed in and there is no o/d indicator light coming on or off. It just doesn't seem to work and seems stuck off as i really can't get past 3rd gear. I couldn't see anything myself but is there a fuse or relay i'm missing? I tried to pull the shift knob off to see if I could fix the button but it didn't wanna come all the way off and I didn't want to break it or anything. A little help please..

SOURCE: abs annd brake light stays on

Your brakes would require some testing because there are a couple things that could go wrong that would give you a hard pedal. With regards to your abs light and handbrake light staying on you should get your codes read to give you more info. But they share a common fault. One of the reasons they could both be on is because your skid control ECU is faulty. Otherwise it could be two separate issues.

SOURCE: how to use the overdrive on the auto.transmission.

the overdrive button on your automatic transmission is for cruising on the highway basically like having another gear for better economy careful not to use it when your not on the highway because lugging the car in overdrive when its not needed will cause higher fuel consumption other than that you should have no problems just get out on the highway and push and away you go

SOURCE: 2000 dodge durango overdive solenoid is faiuling,

That solenoid is inside the trans. The fact you were towing something heavy had nothing to do with the failure. You need to take it to a shop that can check the cvi's(clutch volume index) & some other critical components.

Need a visual manual (89 camry)

For an online manual I suggest you go to AutoZone.com, and become
a member. Doesn't cost anything, and you won't receive junk mail, etc.
I have, and haven't had any problems in about six months now.
(It's the only way I know, to refer someone to a manual)

This is the homepage, http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairInfoLanding.jsp
On the homepage at the top right, you'll see -> Become A Member
Click on this, and enter your info. Immediately after you join, you'll have access to their repair information.

Up to the left you'll see the heading ->My Vehicles, and underneath it Manage My Vehicles. Click on Manage My Vehicles.
On the next page you'll see -> Add A Vehicle <- in an orange rectangle.
Click on that, and then choose the year, (1989), Make, (Toyota), Model,
(Camry), and 4 or 6 cylinder.

Under the -> Select A Category <- heading, scroll to the bottom, and click
on -> Vehicle Repair Guides.
In the middle column click on -> Drivetrain. On this page you want ->
Driven Disc And Pressure Plate. Reading this, you'll see you need to remove the transaxle first. This is on the page you came from, and the heading is ->Manual Transaxle.

I can tell you how to do it, but this is as close as I can get to an online manual for you.

91 gmc shifts in and out of overdive

I had an 89 Suburban that started doing the same thing. Change the fluid/filter and add a quart of Lucas Transmission Fix. See how that does. Ultimately, you are going to have to rebuild or replace the transmission as the problem will only get worse in the end. Mine finally went down completely and cost me about $2700 to rebuild.

Overdrive at highway speeds is jumping in and out of gear

Sounds like your pressure silenoid is going out in the transmission. This controls when the vehicle shifts

1989 gmc sierra c1500 with 350 automatic 8 ft bed regular cab vibration at 45 in overdrive

I had the exactly the same problem, in overdrive my truck would start to shake, in 3rd it would instantly go away, i assumed it was the flywheel to, THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM, your tranny is in good shape and flywheel are in good shape, I had the "Idle Motor" replaced is what my mechanic called it, this completely fixed my problem, also my fuel milage went up considerably after having this replaced, hopefully this will help you out
