Fan running after key removed on Saturn vue 2003. Never heard that before on any car. Should I be worried?

  • Anonymous Nov 05, 2021

Cooling fans or heater blower motor ? Both of which can keep running after the key is turned off . You haven't heard because you have no clue how automotive electrical thing's work .

Take it to a qualified repair shop an have it checked .

Actually after 3 weeks of different places and mechanics and umpteen different code readings.... and upteen times of me saying could it be my thermostat and being told no cause no code for that came up. I finally found someone that actually LOOKED at the car and discovered it was ...wait for it.....THE THERMOSTAT! It was melted open and so fan constantly ran thinking car was overheating. Woohoo! A simple and easy fix! Runs great now.

What is the normal engine coolant temp for Saturn Vue 2009 2.4l

If car is running hot, it could be low on coolant (use correct type for your car Dex-Cool 50/50). are cooling fans running? Could be water pump, could be thermostat.
It will vary between 190 & 205 according to the driving environment.

1997 Chevy Lumina 3.1 engine. The cooling fans aren't coming on tell the car heats up to over 250 degrees.

Did you check for applicable trouble codes? Anything? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.
Check the coolant temp sensor, if you haven't already? Some makes and models if you turn on the ac, the fan/s will run. If you unplug the coolant temp sensor, the fan may run.
I might want to use non--contact infrared temp gun just to double-check temp gage.
Have you ever checked thermostat or coolant flow through the radiator. I understand it only heats at idle.

Saturn cuts off when trying to use the a/c

It could be more than one problem.
The cooling fan could be running because the temp sensor is sending the wrong signal to the computer.
The ac compressor or clutch could be bad causing a heavy load on the belt and the engine.
I would unplug the compressor clutch and see if the engine still bogs down with the ac engaged.

I have a 2003 Saturn Vue 2.2L. The cooling fan is not comomt on when the engine is hot.

Have the coolant temperature sensor checked or replace.
That sensor is tied in with the cooling fans. When the coolant temp increases it turns on the fan.
It is usually located around the thermostat housing or screwed into the engine block with a 2 or 3 wire connector on it.

My check engine light also comes on with my 2005 saturn vue 4cyl. about the same time my engine fan comes on high speed and stays on for days then goes off and the engine light goes off. I changed the...

Engine fan work on high speed in 2 cases , when engine is overheated or when AC is running. If your engine temperature is ok than U have to check the AC system . in most cases the relay that command the fan is the problem.I do not now exactly what kind of fan is on your car but are models that have electronic variable speed fans and the electronic module is located inside the fan.Other models has a separate module that contains the relay and its easy to find the module box only pursuing the cables that leave from the fan

Getting codes PO431, PO421, PO128

2003 saturn vue, we dont have the engine size, the codes should be and are the same, po 128 means; cooling temp is out of spec, make sure the coolant is full, then replace the coolant emp sensor and make sure the connection is good, i would also replace the thermostant, this is a common code on these and most of the time its the coolant temp sensor or thermostant, ive learned to replace then both to avoid future engine lights with code po128. next we will check the code # po421, this code is that the computer sees that the cat converters are taking to long to warm up, code po 431 is also the same as po421, this code is related to the thermostant and sensor, the sensor give the computer the wrong temp readings and then the compuetr thinks the engine is hotter than it is and thinks the converters should be also hot like the motor but the coolant temp is giving a false reading, if you replace the coolant temp sensor and the thermostant and fill coolant , then reset the light and you will solve the problem, i hope this is helpful, also the sensor is located to the right of the engine if you are standing in front of the motor, heres a picture of the sensor, remember to check connector heres a pic of the connector, good luck.johnjohn2_20.jpg

06 vue cooling fan wont shut off tried new relay swich and the 40a fuse is obviously good. what could it be, temp sending unit?

The power for the fan comes from 2 relays in the
junction block on the left fender. One is a high fan relay 40amp the other is the low fan relay 20amp.
If either one is stuck, it will power the fan. Also if the
engine coolant temp(ect)sensor is bad, it can send a
false signal to the engine control module(ecm) and powering the fan. With the engine cool, if the fans still
running. Unplug the ect sensor(on thermo. housing)
if the fan stops replace the sensor. If not pull the relays one at a time. And see which one stops the fan. If none of this works it may be an ecm problem.
Hope this helps.

High Idle 2000 Saturn S series

Definately have a sensor problem...but that may not be all. You can blame the sensor issue on the idling problem. The overheating in park is likely one of 2 things, provided you have adequate coolant. #1 a sticking thermostat or a bad coolant temp sensor not activating your fan at idle. What you should do is have your diagnostic codes read in order to take care of the sensor issue. Most national parts chains such as Auto Zone or Advance will do this at no charge in hopes of selling you a sensor. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful.
