THERES A SIGNAL TO THAT OPERATED ON CURRENT FROM THE ALT OT THE ECM. CHECK IF ITS LOOSE OR MAYBE THE INTERNAL PART OF THE ALTERNATOR IS DEFECTIVE. THERES THE (RED) THICK WIRE TO CHARGE AND OTHER THINNER WIRES THAT SIGNAL'S THE ALTERNATOT OPERATION. DONT WORRY NOT BECAUSE THE ALT IS NEW OR REMANUFACTORED IT DOESNT MEAN ITS IN 100% WORKING CONDITION.... THEY FAIL ALSO WHAT EVER YOU DO REMOVE THE POSTIVE AND NEGATIVE WIRE BEFORE ETTEMPTING ANY WORK. ITS A BAD HABIT TO REPLACE A ALTERNATOR WITH CURRRENT ON.

I have a 96 dodge Dakota 2.4 L , 4 cylinder. I installed 3 oil sensor switches, thinking they could be bad. I have no reading on oil gage in cab. I grounded lead to sensor, gage working. On the other

Try using a cheap mechanical oil gauge to make sure you do have oil pressure. If you do, something is preventing the senders from making ground to the engine. Are you using tape or sealer on sender threads? DON"T. the threads are the ground for the sender.

1997 dodge no lights everything else except that the head lights dont work

You should have a 40amp fuse and a 15amp fuse that powers the headlight switch. If those are good, and you know the bulbs are good, check for voltage at the dimmer switch.

Charging system not working. Major problem with the 1991 Dodge Dakota 5.2L 4x4 Sport charging system not working, major drain on the battery. Searched for short. Any ideas? Already replaced alt. and...

Check output from alternator with a voltmeter it should be between 13.8 to 14.7 if so then check at battery if it is not at least 13.8 minimum to be charging then the big wire on back of alternator is not getting back to the battery through ammeter gauge in dash.
I have hooked a wire from back of alternator straight to the plus[+] side of battery to fix that issue.
Sometimes ammeter gauge burns out breaking the circuit from the alternator back to the battery.

I just changed the alternator and the battery, now the engine won't stay running, and all the gauges do not work on the dash. Please help.

sounds as if wrong battery amp or wrong alternator size. if they are correct, then possibly the ecm is bad. this might not be much help to you, thats what i would start with.

Starter/alternator problems on 1995 Dodge Dakota

The bid cable on the starter may have had another wire on it that the alternator charges the battery threw,it may not have got reconnected,or the fusible link in that wire may have burned into.Or plain and simple the alternator went out.Check these things out and remove the alternator and have it check out to see if it is working properley.

1998 dodge dakota the gauges don't work?update#2

This is likely:

- your alternator with either a loose/shorted connection or bad ground or,

- your voltage regulator is malfunctioning (which is probably in the alternator) or,

- your alternaotr is well connected but is malfunctioning.
