I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Brakes work fine but no abs. This I can live without but as the abs light does not come on dash board, testing station failed it. Tried obvious like bulb and wiring but nothing. Has anyone had similar problem? All I need is abs light to work, on with ignition, off when engine fully started. HELP!!!! PLEASE

Any ABS Light on dash?

Have to get it scanned to find the problem,however,the brakes will be ok,just base brakes ,no abs. You can still drive it.

The abs light being on is signaling that there is a bad electrical part in the abs system, usually a bad abs sensor on one of the wheels. You should have the abs codes from your jeep read to find out exactly which part is bad.

You may have a faulty sensor, most cases a wheel speed sensor, the light is on warning you that you do not have abs basically your car will stop like an old 70's model car before abs. abs atands for anti lock brakes, it keeps your brakes from locking up under extreme braking.

You probably have a bad wheel sensor. With the ABS light on the computer is detecting a malfunction in that system somewhere. Its usually caused by a faulty acuator pump or wheel sensor. This won't affect your brakes neccesarilly, however, with the ABS light on it means your anti-lock brake system is not functioning. This means if you hit your brakes too hard it will allow your wheels to lock up.

What dash lights come on? if its the brake or ABS lights that means your brake pads need to be changed, in some brake pads there is a sensor that also has to be replaced if you have gone too far into the rotor.

Not necessarily but the Check and ABS are there to tell you something. Take me to the repair shop fairly soon and correct

This year jeep has an anti lock brake system that can only be bleed by the dealer..I spent a weekend trying to bleed the system then took it to a friends garage and he put his $6000 tool to bleed this and it never worked so we limped up the road to the dealer and just paid them to bleed the system,,This is all over the internet because repair shops want to sue because it MUST be fixed at the dealer

I would look for a blown fuse first, then look for a loose connector on the harness under the dash,considering the age of the vehicle, the connectores tend to get heat checked and crack causing a short or poor connections.. please rate this
