It is located on the top of the engine in the center. It is round and has a black top. There will be 2 of them one smaller is an oil filter the larger one is the fuel filter.

check fuel pressure, check filters , bad fuel or water in fuel is a common problem with diesel fuel.start simple, turn key to on ,,can u hear fuel pump. remove filter check condition see if water in filter.they have 2 or more filters. prime pump per manual try again.
Take the small fuel filter cap loose under the hood and have somebody hit the key to on. Fuel should come gushing out... If not check filter on frame rail. ....then pump
It may have run out of fuel when the filter was replaced, you may need to use some starting fluid for diesel to getting going and when it starts just rev engine for a few minutes to bleed any air out, also the fault may be related you would have to scan it to see what the fault is , i would start with these things first. hope this helps, good luck.

Fuel System
The fuel system used on the 7.3L direct injection (DI) turbo diesel engine is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650).
The fuel system components consist of:
When you get some fuel you can unscrew the fuel filter and fill it with diesel. Then put the filter back on without spilling the fuel.
There should be enough diesel to prime the motor and get rid of the airlock. Also with diesels make sure you are using the correct tank if you have a tank switch.
YOU MAY HAVE WATER IN THE FUEL FILTER BOWL. REMOVE THE PLASTIC TOP ENGINE COVER AND UNDERNEATH YOU WILL SEE A BLACK ROUND PLASTIC FUEL FILTER COVER. UNSCREW THIS AND SLOWLY REMOVE IT WITH THE KEY IN THE OFF POSITION. REMOVE THE FUEL FILTER AND LOOK UNDER IT TI SEE IF THERE IS WATER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL. SOAK IT UP WITH A RAG OR SPONGE. THEN FILL IT UP WITH DIESEL FUEL AND REPLACE THE FILTER WITH A NEW ONE MAKING SURE TO USE THE GASKET THAT IT COMES WITH. GOOD LUCK. KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA.
