The front of the tensioner securing nut is too close to the shock tower housing and you will probably not be able to get the 15mm socket in there while it is on your extension. Also, you will find that there may be a little problem of getting an open end wrench down onto it because there are a couple of a/c lines that wrap the border of the top of the shock tower. I had to slightly pull these lines toward the fender to enable myself to get to that tensioner nut. I used a belt tensioner tool with the 15mm wrench end adapter instead of a socket, and it worked easily then. Remember, the direction to move the tool is clockwise, toward the front bumper. Hope this will help.

Serpentine belt falling off

The Belt Tensioner is probably crooked, it's hard to tell but if you look at it while the vehicle is running and it looks tilted even just a tiny bit, it will cause the belt to fall off. Belt Tensioner.

Need to change the drive belt on my toyota corolle 2005 model how do i go about it

Hi,

release tension on belt by:

-putting a socket/breaker bar or ratched on the tensioner pulley bolt and use it to relieve tension on the belt

-slide belt off tensioner pulley. replace with new belt in same pattern across all pulleys and again relieve tension on the tensioner puller to slide the new belt back on.

--you may need to remove the bolt on the tensioner closest to the pulley.

---if you don't know what the tensioner looks like look up the part on autozone's website for a picture you can match on your car

Best regards.

How do i release the tension belt ... cant seem to find bolt being referred to in other docs

Here's the procedure on how to release and replace the tension belt of your car.

Step 1
  • Open the hood on the Volvo S-60 and find the serpentine-belt routing diagram. The diagram should be attached to the top of the fan shroud that covers the radiator. If not, draw out the exact routing method of the serpentine belt around each pulley with a pen and a piece of paper.
  • Step 2 Locate the serpentine-belt tensioner that is in the very center of the engine. The tensioner will have a square bolt head in the center of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 3 Slide the open end of the 5/8-wrench onto the square bolt head in the center of the belt-tensioner pulley. Turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise and slide the serpentine belt off of the tensioner pulley.
  • Step 4 Remove the serpentine belt from the other pulleys and pull the belt out of the engine compartment.
  • Step 5 Slide the new serpentine belt into the engine compartment and around the crankshaft pulley.
  • Step 6 Route the new serpentine belt around each pulley. Turn the belt-tensioner pulley counterclockwise again and slide the serpentine belt around the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner and it will tighten the belt around the pulleys. Look over the belt to ensure that it is inside of each pulley.
  • Step 7 Crank the S-60 and look over the serpentine belt with the motor running. Let the engine run for about one minute and shut the engine off. Close the hood.

How do I install the serpentine belt on a 2003 Ford expedition?

Hello,Locate the serpentine belt tensioner on the front of the engine. The tensioner is what keeps tension on the belt and keeps the belt from coming off.The tensioner will have a bolt head in the middle of it that a 15mm socket will fit
STEP 2:Look on the hood base where the hood lock attaches to the base and see if there is a belt diagram. This diagram will give you the exact instruction for properly routing the belt across the pulleys. If there is no diagram there, you will need to write down the exact routing of the belt on the pulleys on a notepad
STEP 3:Put the 15mm socket onto the ratchet and put the ratchet onto the bolt head on the belt tensioner.
STEP 4:Turn the tensioner clockwise to relieve the tension on the belt and remove the belt from all of the pulleys
STEPS 5:Remove the new serpentine belt the same way that the old one came off by following the belt routing diagram instruction.Do not put the belt across the tensioner until last.Keep in mind that the belt will only go on one way and be right.
STEP 6:Put the ratchet with the 15mm socket back on the belt tensioner and rotate the tensioner clockwise to give you enough room to slide the new belt across the belt tensioner pulley.Slide the belt onto the belt tensioner pulley and release the belt tensioner.Look over the belt and double check to make sure that the belt is running across all of the
    pulleys correctly
STEP 7:Crank the car and inspect that the belt is secure and is staying in the grooves on all of the pulleys.

    Thanks

    How to change serpentine belt

Hello, this is an easy job. I like to remove the upper fan shroud to give me more room to work. TAKE A VERY GOOD LOOK at how the belt is routed, it looks simple but once it's off can be confusing. With a ratchet and socket or a box end wrench release the tension on the automatic belt tensioner. CAUTION don't let the wrench slip and bang your knuckles. With the tension released just remove the old belt and slowly release the tensioner. Don't just let it snap back. Place the new belt firmly and squarely in the grooves of the various pulleys and release tension on the tensioner again, then slip the belt around the final pulley and slowly release the tension again. I put the belt on the idler pulley last, (the smooth one).

How do you change the serpentine belt chevy malibu 200

Well you don't have to remove the tensioner. If you look at it, you'll see a 3/8 square hole in the arm of the tensioner. Put a ratchet wrench, or breaker bar in the hole, and you can move the tensioner, it is only spring loaded. The diagram for how the belt laces in should be on the radiator core support. Lace it for the majority around, move the tensioner, and once you have the belt in line, release the tension on the tensioner arm.

I need to replace my alternator belt but I have no clue on what to do as far as getting the old belt off to put the new one on

What you have to do is make sure you have a new belt. Then look under the hood, you don't give a year or engine size so some of these directions may or may not apply. Check to see if the alternator belt is the outside belt or if others need to come off first. If needed remove belts that are in the way taking note of routing. If its one serpentine belt take note of routing (there should be a sticker under the hood with routing). Remove belt by loosening the pivot or tensioner. Then replace and set tension. With tensioners the tension is set automatically. If you are not sure what a tensioner is look at the belt, you may want to push or pull on it and you will see a pulley that goes to nothing but is against the belt and will move when you move the belt. To make it easier to remove belt look inside the tensioner pulley and there is a bolt put a socket on it and move as needed to take pressure off belt and remove belt. Take your time and look at the belt(s) before starting. Take notes or draw a picture to help putting it back together. Belts just look hard but are easier than they look.
