Recently noticed when driving over 40mph, I hear a loud humming like tire tread noise, coming from the front. When I'm turning right it gets worse. Turn left and it virtually vanishes. Is this the bearings? Hub assembly? Thanks

Yes.this means the left wheel bearing is bad, because when you turn right the pressure is pushing down on the left wheel causing noise and when you turn left the pressure then pushes down on the right side removing pressure from the left side causing noise to stop.. this is why when you turn one way or the other the noise stops and starts.

Loud humming noise coming from the rear/tires? of 07 pt cruiser?

Rub your hand over the tread and try and feel for cupping or uneven tread patterns. This will create alot of road noise. If not, have your wheel bearings checked.

I have a 2011 Nissan Sentra. It has developed a loud hum and vibration to the steering wheel from the front end .it has 180,000km. Any ideas?

How are the tires? New? Old? Rotate them and see if noise goes away. Possibly front wheel bearing in the front drive axle where it goes thru the hub and rotor.......goes the noise get worse if you turn right or left slightly when driving it? If it gets worse on one side that is the side with the bad bearing.....replace as needed.

When I accelerate on my 2004 Pacifica, I hear a humming noise. That's the best way I can describe it. It's not very loud, but it's been very noticeable here recently. There is also some...

if you have front wheel drive, have the CV joints checked, they begin by humming when they start to go bad, and as that gets worse they click loudly when turning , as far as the oil leak,, its best to have the vehicle raised and inspected while its in the air to limit where the leak may be coming from, one easy way to get this checked, is to take the vehicle to a oil change place, and while its either over the pit, or up on a lift, ask them to do a visual for any leaks , and get your oil changed at the same time,

I'm having the same exact problem as cpurdey with my 2004 Mazda MPV. My mechanic is quite certain it is not the wheel bearing or hub but seems to think it's a bearing in the transmission. Is...

If it gets worse as you're turning right, but not left - Most definitely a wheel bearing on the right side. The right turn puts more stress on the right wheel - louder noise - turn left and release the stress - no noise. You can also lift the vehicle up on a jack and listen to the wheel and hear the bearing in the hub making noise.

If the noise doesn't change when you turn left or right while you are moving than The first thing I would look at is the tire. Check for uneven wear or cupping. The tread should be worn evenly and smoothly all the way around the tire. Something you can try to at least eliminate the tires as the problem is to rotate the tires. If the noise changes, stops, or moves from the front to the rear than you know its the tires.

If the noise still persists after rotating the tires than we will have to think of something else.

Noise when the car is at speeds above 40mph. kind of a waaa waaa waa noise.07 Compass 2weel drive. has 70,000miles and has used two set of tires, drives straight, tires wear straight but in the center.

if tires are wearing in the center it says that they are over inflated, the noise you hear could be tire tread hum or it could be front wheel bearing hard to tell without actually seeing your tires.

My front end makes a loud humming noise. At low speeds, I hear a humming noise and at high-speeds I can hear a noise in my tires. Not sure if it is an the wheel bearings, bad tires, or alignement.

Alignment will not create a sound by it's self. The most common cause of humming (especially if you have an agressive tread design)is a wear pattern in the tires...check for that or rotate the tires around & see if the noise changes. If it does then you know it's in the tires. & Not always, but most of the time a bearing noise will increase or decrease in intensity if you load up one side at a time by doing 35-50 mph & turning slightly to each side.
