I would take a closer look at the heater control valve located in line with heater core hose.it vacuum controlled to close coolant flow to heater core when a/c Is on.it's located by the radiator on passengers side.it has a black plastic lever on it, and the body it aluminum. The lever breaks internally, causing low coolant flow to heater core.remove and you will find white sludge build up. Replace and be on your way....

Cooir its older than my escort ,now you havent stated if its diesel ofr petrol but anyway if one hose is hot and the other is cold then i suspect this older model has a valve/ tap operated by the cable from the control unit so check it out so see if it has one ,if not then disconnect the heater hoses ,collect the antifreeze and then try flushing the heater unit both directions and see if it passes water ?' then gat back to me via this posting and go from their

I woild be checking the vent controls as if the ac is working and the core was blocked then the air would be cool when the heat was selected but not changing Fixing the heater has resulted in a /c not being good enough to cool the air if the vent is not properly selecting. The point is that if the vent selection is not working properly (vacuum hoses) then the 2 faults will be related.

Mechanics probably didn't get all the air out of the cooling system. Take the radiator cap off and start the engine. Turn the heater on high and let the car warm up until the thermostat opens and coolant is flowing in the radiator. Keep the radiator full as level may begin dropping. Let it run a while keeping it full and look for any bleeder ports on the hoses or the housings where the hoses attach. Break any bleeders open to let air out. Top off the radiator and put the cap on. You should have heat. Let me know if you don't.

are you using a 190 degree thermostat..do you have a faulty sending unit,also check the heater control valve,make sure you are putting the thermostat in correctly,dont mean to make you sound bad,some of these thermostats are funny

You may have vapour lock in your heater lines. Start engine, put heat lever on high, disconnect one of the lines on your heater core, the one on the flow out side, & see if you have any air coming out. Once antifreese comes out stick line back on & retighten clamp. Make sure your cooling system is topped off. Also your water pump may not be functionihg to it's maximum. Take rad cap off cold & view flow rate. If inadequate you may have to replace the water pump. Good luck!

almost sounds like air in the system.... let it warm up so the thermostat is open... squeeze the hose going to the heater core. make sure the radiator is filled as well. if it has an overflow tank add fluid to that.

Very common problem. Heater control clips break and must be replaced. I found a lot of info on the web including instructions and pictures. Clips are cheap at www.944online.com. They aldo have the instructions and pics.
