My subaru outback revs high high, sometimes the lights on the middle console(stereo heater) fade out come back on. Now that it has sat the battery is dead. Battery or what? I replaced the Throttle pedal positoin sensor, worked until I used a power source, then it seems it went out again.

SOURCE: Recently, my wife's 1998 Subaru

I had the same problem on our 1999 Forester after replacing the battery. Here was the solution I was given by Subaru Santa Cruz.
1) the key to the ON position where all the dash lights up. 2) disconnect the NEGATIVE battery terminal. 3) wait 15 seconds then reconnect the the battery. 4) start the engine from the ON position.
If this doesn't work, the car must be taken in for repair.

I had this same problem, I replaced both idler pulleys on my 2002 H6 sedan, this solved the problem, also the power steering pump onn these cars starts to go out after 80,000 or so. I would look at the belt and the two idler pulleys, if either of them have excessive play(ie-belt looks like it wiggles or moves back and forth at all, while traveling over the idler pulleys-2 on H6, one is a belt tensioner) replace immediatley.

Apart from the fuse box in the engine bay there is a fuse repository behind the coin alcove underneath the boot release. Fuse 3 for the lighter (I think) was blown. I replaced it and now the climate control console responds and the display lights up.
