2000 Explorer cranks over good but just will not start.

Came home backed 2000 explorer in driveway, next day went to start it, it cranked over very well but just will not start. Checked fuel shutoff button and that is good. No sign or signal of anything wrong at all until just will not start.

Try spraying with starting fluid. If it starts, it is your fuel pump that is not working. Good luck.

2000 ford 4.0 explorer cranks but fails to start. It acts like it starts after sitting all night but then only cranks, what is wrong?

Check for spark to the sparkplug. Try a shot of starting fluid as having gas pumping and having the fuel injectors opening are 2 different things. If you have spark, then the fuel injectors may not be working. Quick diagnosis is to use starting fluid and see if engine tries to run. This indicates problem is not lack of spark but lack of fuel getting into cylinders.

No spark to spark plugs on 2000 4.0 liter sohc motor. coil pack, crank sensor?

Parts stores can test ignition module. You can check ignition fuse and tap on relay. Crank sensor is common failed part, but harder to test. If you know how to access it, you can test for continuity by back probing connector.

My 2000 explorer will crank on some days but if i crank it and drive it i wont start again till the next morn what could be wrong

a good area to check is the ignition stater itself. try to knock on the stater under the hood when it does not crank and see if in the process it starts. if it starts then u may need a new stater. you may still need a mechanic to check on the entire electrical system of the engine that inclueds the coils and the sparks. thanks

2000 explorer cranks over but will not start then starts next day

Check your fuel pressure, fuel pump probably needs replaced.

Occasionally my 2000 Explorer simply won't start. It cranks and cranks but won't start. I may wait a day or so, try again and it starts right up. What's up?

Sounds like crank sensor is bad. You most likely aren't getting any spark. You can always check the fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail to see if there is plenty of gas. use a rag on top if you try.

You can use a test light or ohmmeter on each coil pack connection to see if there is power.

Or you can pull out one spark plug , then plug back in to plug wire, then lay on top of engine.Make sure the electrode is directly next to metal surface (about 1/4" away) Have someone else crank engine while you watch for spark. Then put back on and move to next plug wire.

1999 ford Explorer 4.0 v6 4x4 will cranck but not start has spark

Honestly it's probably just dirty spark plugs. Did you pull any of the spark plugs and inspect the tips for build up? A couple things to remember:

1.) If the timing chain broke, the valves wouldn't be opening so you wouldn't have any air coming out of the exhaust during crank. You said it smells like you're getting fuel, so I'm assuming that means you're smelling the exhaust fumes, right?

2.) The crank sensor tells the ignition system when to send a spark to the plugs. If you're getting good spark, it's unlikely that the crank sensor is faulty.

If it's too soon for spark plugs to need replacing, check your sensors. A faulty oxygen sensor for example could cause your engine to run 'rich', resulting in faster crud build up on spark plug tips.
