The battarey isnt charging, the windows arent working , the radio isnt working, the head lights arent working, the tail lights arnt working

Not much information but from what you describe I would guess the alternator and or voltage regulator (which might be inside the alternator) is faulty. Before doing anything else however make sure the connections on the battery are clean and corrosion free and that the battery has a full charge.

Battery keeps draining

if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.

How do I replace an alternator on a 2000 VW Passat 1.8T. How hard is it to replace?

it isnt that hard actually

disconect positive battery terminal. and feel the tension on the laternator belt. you will need to bring it back to this tension.

1.) loosen bolts holding alternator in place (LOOK AT THE BELT TO REMEMBER HOW IT GOES, BEST NOT REMOVE THE BELT.)

2.) loosen bolts holding wires to alternator and connect wires to new alternator

3.) Place alternator in engine, replace bolts but dont tighten

4.) put belt in place, it will be slack, use your tire iron or a piece of pipe or wood to pry the alternator back, to bring tension on the belt. You pry the alternator to pull the belt as TIGHT AS POSSIBLE. while holding strain, on it, tighten the bolts.

I think the alternator on my 99 ford ranger isnt working, this problem happened a year ago. thus it could be the problem again, so i think that a fuse is the problem, but i dont know wherre the fuse is on...

first you need to test the alternator to make sure it isnt working. you can take it to a parts store or you can do it in your driveway by starting the truck and disconnecting the battery. IF it dies then the alternator is bad. If it doesnt, then you have another problem. you need to check the voltage regulator and see if it is putting out too much. This will cause premature death to an alternator. It is also possible you just got a bad one. I had the same problem only it was a battery that lasted less than a year. Its been 3 years on the replacement and I am fine.

Check the alternator first and then the regulator

My alternator isnt charging the battery how do i fix it

The best way is to replace it with a new or rebuilt alternator....it should be fairly simple to do with basic tools...The first thing to do is to disconect the negative cable on your battery...then remove the fan belt...then disconect the wiring from the alternator, and lastly unbolt the alternator, and remove it. To instal the new one just do everything in reverse.

Alternator is not charging my battery in my 1996 volvo 960. how do I troublshoot before replacing the alternator?

Check whether the groundings to the body and engine are good. Try to install good grounding cables connected directly from the battery to the various body and engine areas. It is not advisable to replace alternator with higher amperage. Please stick to the original specification if new alternator is needed.
