That's a thing you can't do alone. It needs to a qualified electrician. It maybe the dashboard has no ground. Do you have any light there? For the gauges, check the connector near the fuel tank. There should be two cables going to the tank, try to bridge them and see if there is response from the gauge. If the gauge responds, then the problem is in the tank. Replace the gauge in the tank.

Check the wires going to the instrument cluster, and check the wires from the sending unit. Possibly a corroded or damaged wire/connector

The light says check gauges? This doesn't mean fluids are low. Look at the gauges, something is out of spec. A common one is the alternator, if the voltage drops below usually 12v, the light comes on.

If all voltages checked ok, then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected. Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok, then also it can be faulty. Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such problem arises.

Also check the fuse box. One under hood and other under dash.

Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

My guess would be a short or problem with the printed circuit board in the cluster.

Have you checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge or are you going by the gauge in the suburban. If you're going by the electric gauge in the suburban I would suggest checking it with a mechanical gauge. If the mechanical gauge confirms the oil pressure is low then you probably have a serious engine problem. If the mechanical gauge indicates normal pressure the O/P sender is probably the culprit.

If your "Check Gauges" light is on, the light means pretty much whay it says...CHECK GAUGES! One or more of your gauges is/are reading outside of normal operating range. You could be having an overheating problem (Temperature gauge near or in the red) You could be having a charging system problem (Battery or Amp gauge reading in the "discharge" or "low voltage" area.) You could be nearly out of fuel (Fuel gauge reading near empty) Your oil pressure could be low (OIl Pressure gauge reading very low)....You have to look at your gauges to find out what is going on that is not normal.

Fuel gauges in general are a separate from fuel pump circuits. Usually you start by finding the fuse panel and check the gauge fuse, if the rest of your gauges are working this usually means the fuse for all gauges including temp, oil, fuel are ok. Next you'll have to locate the sending unit wires at the fuel tank and look to see if any are disconnected or damaged and have good clean connections. Next consult a factory manual regarding the method of checking the gauge some companies ground the wire or while others manufacturers require a variable poteniometer usually between 0-100 ohms resistance. slowly turn the pot from 0 through the specs to cause the gauge to sweep from empty to full while watching the gauge making sure it sweeps smoothly. If the gauge is fine the tank will have to come down and a new sender installed, also while you in the tank check that the fuel gauge float does just that floats!

the check gauges light means exactly that, look at your gauges, there is something wrong, look all the gauges when the engine is running, usually the temp gauge is to high, is the vehicle overheating, is the check eng. light on, make sure all the gauges are reading normal, the check gauges light is there to get your attention, see what it wants.
