I walk you through replacement of the front heater core on a 2000... I just finished replacing the fuel pump and sending unit on my2000 Olds ..

I would make sure the core is the problem. You may have a heater control valve that cuts off flow to the core by vac. or a blend door that cuts off air flow thru the core.
You will need a shop manual to replace the core. The dash and console have to come out, along with discharging the ac.

if u are not a mechanic dont even try! the dash comes off the the climet control box comes offf then you open the box tahe out the heater core replace it .

well i am telling you not a easy task you have to have dealership discharge ac system and you will have to remove entire dash panel.buy a haynes repair manual read the chapter for heater core removal.see what you getting into jeep cherokee heater core is hard job for home mechanics.if you are mechanic been doing it for while should have much problem doing the repair.

with great difficulty ,start be removing the dash ,then its easy when you can get to it

It is a big job. I did this on my carport about 6 months ago. It is an all day job because you have to take every part of the dash down to the firewall. Be carefull when installing the new on because the work area is tight and the cores are brittle. Try www.wjjeeps.com

please have your thermostat replaced first..cheapest option first.perhaps thermofan is kicking in at wrong time sensor?

Make sure the cooling system is clean with fresh coolant when u change the core, otherwise u may damge the new core becuase your coolant is worn out, if your Jeep has over 60,000 it should be done anyway, also I recommend at least a new upper radiator hose while it is drainned and inspect the other parts of the system.

allow me to make a recommendation. get a haynes manual. generally like 15 bucks at the local autoparts store. get an extra pair of hands and about 4 hours. there are a boat load of screws so make sure you bag them and label them. the heater core is located on the passenger side of the vehicle. once the dashboard and support behind it is out you ll have a casing in which the heater core is located. make sure you remove the negative from the battery terminal and all remove all pressure from the AC. remove the bolts for the AC tubes on the outside of the firewall as well as the two tubes that are attached to the the heater core (they are located in the same area).

MAJOR ADVICE take youre time. this will take about 4 hours to remove the dash, 10 minutes replace the core and another 4 hours to put it all back together. I am in the process of putting mine back together in case you have any questions email me. ricardo(dot)markland(at)gmail(dot)com
