Dodge neon 1997, Clutch problems

One day my 1997 dodge neon broke down. When this happened, It would not shift into first, and it made a very loud grinding noise. The clutch pedal didn't seem to do anything at the time (This was a while back and i forget some details). As i would try to shift into second, the car would start to move. My dad and I had to use second gear to get it home, because first gear didn't work at all. I've looked at some idea from sites, but really haven't got any ideas whats wrong with it. Also, my dad figures the car isn't worth fixing, but i believe it could be. If you have any ideas, It would be very helpful. Thanks-Ian

SOURCE: ****! 1989 Ranger stuck shifter on new clutch!

Somehow you have it stuck in two gears. If I remember correctly your shift mechanism is inside the unit. If so, you will need to remove the trans and the cover, then re-position the shift forks. If you get lucky, you may be able to free it up by wiggling the shift lever but I doubt it.
Do not run it 'till you manage to free it up or you can break a gear. If you removed shifter when working on it, first check that you put it back in correctly before tearing everything apart!

My 1995 Ford pick-up did that to. You should give it about 10 seconds from pressing the clutch to going into reverse.Dealer said not to put it in reverse to quick.give 10 seconds.

SOURCE: 99 dodge avenger gears will not engage

This is most likely an issue with the clutch slave cylinder... Typically, if the clutch master cylinder fails, the clutch pedal will not return and [usually] sinks to the floor under it's own weight. If the pedal returns, it's typically a clutch slave cylinder issue. The best thing to do is to replace both cylinders so that you'll not have to worry about either cylinder failing again.

2003 Dodge Neon....difficulty shifting, car shakes, cost to repair clutch? only 47,000 miles!

Sounds like you have clutch problems, this can be the hydraulic release system or the clutch plate that is defective, only a trained technician can tell the difference. Most shops will do a preliminary diagnostic for free.

My Clutch cable broke Dodge neon 1997 DOHC Any manuals online to read help me replace it

i have done one a couple of years back but i cannot remember much now but i do know it wasnt difficult but after changing the cable i discovered the reason it broke --you needed a lot of pressure to push it down which meant the clutch needed changing which i advised the customer but he traded the car in.Follow your nose on this as i know it was failry easy to do i hooked the end into the clutch pedal and then just connected the other end and adjusted it i dont remember any auto adjustment like a ford escort or mondeo but to be honest at my age i forget what i had for breakfast .

I have a 1997 dodge neon 5 speed and when i shift gears there is a grinding noise. what can i do to fix this please??

sounds like you have a throw out bearing out. Put in neautral and depress pedal while idleing if noise starts its throw out bearing in clutch if noise is there when clutch is out in neautral its probly front trans bearing either involves removeing transmission and replaceing clutch assy or front bearing

2004 dodge neon has high rpms and no speed

ok i just replaced mine to but you have to make sure that you replace the throwout bearing(correctly)
if this does not happen it is like the clutch is engaged partially all the time and another thing is that make sure no oil is in the clutch pack. i replaced my main engine seal while i had it apart because it was tossing oil into the clutch area.

Good Luck
