SOURCE: Porsche 944 Turbo won't go into gear when motor is running.

Hi mate. I'm no Porsche expert but the most common diagnosis would be clutch failure. If you can shift (even some) gears with the engine off then this would be plausible. Before looking at the complete clutch, try the master and/or slave cylinder, it's more likely to be the master. Pop the bonnet and check the level of brake fluid in the reservoir, there is no "clutch fluid", it's just brake fluid. If it's below the minimum line, top it up then see if it engages gear. Get it checked out, but tell the mechanic your theory, he'll soon confirm it if it is.

SOURCE: 1985 944 porsche speedometer stop working

There is a gear in the speedo that breaks. This is plastic gear on a metal shaft. The last fix I did was to remove speedo and open it up. I super glued the cracked gear to the shaft because I was unable to find a new one. It worked again with no future problems. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1985.5 PORSCHE 944 digital clock (changing time)

There are three buttons, let's call them 1, 2, and 3, from left to right.

With the clock in the time readout mode, keep
button (2) depressed for 4 seconds -12 AM, PM

change the display mode, push button (3). The
clock then returns to its normal timekeeping

flashes. Set hour by pushing button (1). After
pushing button (3)*, the clock returns to the time
readout mode with new hour setting.

C. Minutes
Push button (2) once more - minute display
flashes. Set minute by pushing button (1). Upon
pushing button (3)*, the clock is started -
accurate to within 1 second.

The stop watch can only be set in motion if the
clock is in its normal timekeeping mode and not
during setting operations.
A. Push button (3) - 00:00 display appears;
B. Push button (1) - stop watch is on;
C. Push button (1) a second time - watch stops.

2001 chevy cavalier lost key can I replace the ignition switch without a key?

the original key is coded to your car.
So changing the barrel to have a new key wont help and ill tell you why.
Inside the original key is a transponder chip that is programmed to the cars immobiliser unit.
Attached to the ignition barrel is whats called a reader coil and its job is to read the keys chip when inserted in the barrel to deactivate the immobiliser so that the car will start.
What you need to do is contact a good knowlegable locksmith to provide a new key and code it to your car

Where can i find the key code? i lost the original and would like to replace it without replacing the ignition

Im not sure if they will have records that go back that far, but the porsche dealer should be able to look it up by pulling up your vin number. Be prepared to show some type of proof that you own the car or they wont give it to you. I have done this before with other makes of vehicles but never porsche.

Lost car key

Yes it is a coded key, the problem is without the resistance value of the original key (the little piece of resistive wire embedded in the key shaft) you will have re-program the system to the new key value. The keys will run about $20 US each and the programming about 1/2 hr or $50. Do yourself a favor get two keys done.
