Need to know how to install belt on 2004 chevy impalia

You order them to the vehicle, not by size. The three belts are here with the OEM Parts numbers. Parts suppliers have a book with all the makes, models and years, and that book tells them the length, width and form, (ribbed or plain).

If there is no diagram pasted in the engine compartment, check your owner's manual...or else go to your local auto store warehouse or Chevy dealership...usually the parts counter person can print out the diagram specifically to your vehicle. Since you did not mention the engine specs- I'm going to generically how to install a serpentine belt.

1.) make a loop and slip the loop around the crank shaft pulley
2.) continue looping the belt around the water pump pulley
3.) ...around the A/C pulley
4.) ...and around the idler pulley
Skip the alternator pulley for now- you want to do that one last.
5.) Continue placing the belt around the power steering pump pulley
6.) and over the belt tensioner pulley
7.) Now move the belt tensioner position so that you can loop the belt over the alternator.
8.) Now double check to make sure that the belt is properly and securely fastened around each pulley's grooves. Don't start the motor until you are absolutely sure... and can visually verify that the new belt is installed properly. And don't have anyone (or pets) standing around the car or open engine compartment when you initially start the car just in case the belt breaks...serious injuries can occur!

Which engine do you have ?
There should be a diagram on the hood or the radiator support.

There are 5 motors that year....

to remove the transmission the car has to be in the air 6 feet in the air at least and no u do not have to remove the engine but the transmission is very heavy and u need the right tools to do it. u have to remove the drive shaft its a lot of work.

My guess would be that you do not have the belt routed correctly. There is a tensioner that should put the proper amount of pressure on the belt assuming this has one serpentine belt. Make sure all pulleys have the belt routed to them the proper way. It sounds simple I know, but looks dan be deceiving.

The larger circle is the crankshaft pulley. Sorry about the novice art work, but it should get the job done.

the harmonic balancer ?right wheel off few Shields remove remove serpentine belt take out center bolt of balancer rent or lone a puller look closely make sure the new one is same check with liberty 4 book or parts place 4 tork [Causation crank sensor don't bump ]

just go to any junk yard and find a used deawoo lanos and pull the head if timing belt was not broke, if it looks good, its a exact fit 100%, no special tools needed, just normal wrench set and torqe wrench. after head is installed, get a gates timing belt only.
