Hi MeTV,
I was expecting to hear, 'And the radio only plays the theme from the twilight zone'. I'm glad you're an Engineer.
Process of elimination then:
Maybe it's not so much the engine warming up as the length of time.
What's left are Fusible links. Self resetting fuses that may (and I'm reaching here) be popping during startup. They take a few minutes to reset.
They are normally running through the firewall on the engine side. You will need a meter to check them. It has to be done while nothings working. They are regular wires with little barrel in line.
It's the only component that could be responsible
Mike
Hello Again,
There are a few wire bundles going through the firewall. Pot luck. I'd start with the wiper motor and trace the wires upstream as far as I could or until I found a link.
In rereading the problem, I found I had overlooked an obvious step in isolating the problem.
If you turn the key on without starting the engine, do the wipers work?
If yes, the problem is electrical reset
If no, it leans back to a temperature thing.
IF no, then after waiting they work, we may be looking at a computer problem.
Testing Fusible Links
Test resistance by placing probes on either side of the barrel
Hint-Sometimes a couple straight pins and alligator clip jumpers can be handy in testing situations. Stick the pins through the insulation and clip the pins to the probes. Hands free and no stripping needed.
Or test for voltage both up and down stream of the link.
The AWD thing makes my head hurt. It throws vacuum into the mix. Lets get the wipers going and see if the AWD sorts itself out.

Mike thanks for this.
The fusible links you speak of?
Are they located on the engine side of the firewall on the passenger side?
I see two barrels with 2 wires going to each and also connect to a couple of vacuum air hoses.
The caps seem to come off easy enough.
When things are working properly I can hear and fell the virbration of them poping.
With a meter on the wires, what am i looking for? a voltage, or lack of?
with the meter on the barrels, I am guessing i should see little or no resistance.
Is this a item I can take apart and clean?
spray with wd-40 or will this just cause dust to collect, causing more problems.
Thanks again for your help
