Fuse's burn if a component in a system has an electrical failure wether it be permanent or intermittent or sometime electrical circuits have an electrical surge which can be caused by numerous things and the fuse will burn to protect the circuit. If your fuse is coninuously burning out then you need to do some investigative work. First I would locate the fuel pump relay and remove that then replace the fuse and see if it burns out, second if you can access it try to unplug the wiring to the pump and replace the fuse, third you should check the wiring going to the pump to see if there is damaged wiring. The last thing that may (but unlikely) be the problem would be the ECM that controls the system. If the first three fail you should try and have it properly diagnosed by good shop.

Hello ju2454.
Fuses are in place to protect the circuit from overheating the wires.
So if there is too much current flow the fuse burns to open the circuit.
So there is something drawing too much current in your fuel pump wiring.
This could be caused by the positive 12 volt feed from the fuse all the way to the pump.
It is often best to eliminate a portion of the circuit to determine where the short is taking place.
I would start at the fuel pump itself. If the fuse blows as soon as you turn on the key, undo the connector at the tank to the pump and put in a new fuse. Try it again, if the fuse pops then your short is before that point likely a chafed wire on the body. If the fuse stays good then the problem is in the pump harness or the fuel pump itself.
hank you for using Fixya!

The fuse will blow only for two reasons, either an overload or a short to ground. chances are if you have not changed the fuel pump recently then i would suspect that the pump is on its way out. let me know how it works out please

SOURCE: fuel pump fuse blows quick

You have a short between the fuse and the reset valve . you have to trace the wires in between the fuse box and the fuel reset valve to see if they are pinched and a short is occuring.Follow the wiring from the fuse towards the back .

Showing no fuse on dashboard of pt cruisers 2005 and fuel pump not working

The fuel pump not working in your 2005 PT Cruiser and the absence of a "fuel pump fuse" on the dashboard could be caused by a few different issues.
  1. Blown Fuse: If the fuel pump fuse has blown, it will need to be replaced in order to restore power to the fuel pump. The fuse box in a 2005 PT Cruiser is typically located under the hood, on the driver's side.
  2. Fuel Pump Relay: The fuel pump relay controls the power to the fuel pump. If the relay has failed, the fuel pump will not receive power and the engine will not start. The relay is usually located in the power distribution center or the engine compartment fuse box.
  3. Fuel Pump: If the fuel pump itself has failed, it will need to be replaced. The fuel pump is typically located in the fuel tank.
  4. Wiring Issues: Wiring problems can also cause the fuel pump to stop working. If the wiring has been damaged or is corroded, it will need to be repaired or replaced in order to restore power to the fuel pump.
If you are not comfortable diagnosing and fixing the issue yourself, I would recommend taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic. They will be able to diagnose the problem and make the necessary repairs.

What would cause the fuse to keep blowing on the fuel pump for a 2004 Isuzu rodeo?

i missed this. an NO engine stated, 3.2 or 3.5 DI?????????
car have the IMMOBLIzer option?
now a real answer , not guessing... just facts, if above true.
1:shorted wires to the pump (end to end ,long)
2;wrong amp fuse. not spec. (the one blown)
3: a shorted pump.
4: fuel pump relay shorted.
5: some fuses on cars (most) run other things too, not just a pump (not this case, it seems
no fuse number stated or engine size)

6: tank dry and this burned up the pump as all do. like that. no gas.? in tank.
7: pump clogged.and impeller jammed.

now Ill read the FSM pages on topic for you.
ok,on the schematic page,3.25
there is no such fuse, in uSA 2004,
its gets power on both engines from the IG1-b1 fuse
fuse eb f15, engine bay = eb
why not tell
that was 3.2
next the 3.5DI (a totally different setup)
ill pretend that next
if eb12 fuse blew (engine bay fuse f12) marked pump
that means, the pump is bad or the pump controller is shorted.
so unplug pump, if fuse holds its the pump
if not?, its the controller
here is proof on the 3.1

try mitchels.
its all there.
no books. ? well, read this,

Never changed the fuel pump in 2006 hhr but it keeps blowing fuses

Check the wires at the fuel tank / pump. There is a chance they could have rubbed through and causing the short. If you check / test the wires and they are good then just replace the pump. Most likely cause is blown fuse is the fuel pump shorted out.

Make sure you are replacing the fuse with correct amperage.

When i try to start my 98 chevy venture minivan it turns over for about 20 sec then dies unless i pump the gas when i turn it over. what are all the possibilities of what could be causing this to happ

Turning over is engine cranking, not running. I'm not sure I understood your post?
Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, 3.4L engine, 41--47 psi.
Any applicable trouble codes? To check codes yourself, at the least you need an obd2 code reader.
I'd want to check if system is running rich or lean?

I believe my fuel pump went bad, I was driving down the road and the truck seemed like it was losing fuel. After it died i couldn't ever get it to start again. I bought a "used" pump from...

a locked up fuel pump would blow the fuse. also check at the fuel rail to see if the pump is working. it may have been a clogged line that burned up the first pump which in-turn burned the fuse.

and if there is/was a clog then it probably clogged the injectors as well, if fuel is making it to the injectors then you might try running a high quality fuel system / injector cleaner. I hope this helps.

good luck

2000 5.3 silverado won't start. Fuel pump used to make noise when key turned on. Now nothing

this usually means your fuel pump burned out, BUT the fuse may have blown to. i suggest checking the underhood fuse relays aswell as the fuse relays in the cab of the truck. if those are fine i suggest checking to see if you have power reaching the fuel pump with either a test light or an ohm meter

Starting the car after running out of gas

You may have blown either the fuel pump fuse or the fuel pump itself.

The fuel in the tank cools the pump. If there's no gas, the pump can overheat and burn out the fuse or the pump.

I ran out of gas in a 1997 Chevy Blazer, put gas in, but still won't start.

The fuel filter may be to dirty to let the gas flow through and will need to be replaced, or most common when you run out of gas is the fuel pump will burn it self out. The fuel in the tank will keep the fuel pump cooled and will keep it from burning out, if you ran it out of gas. The pump may have burn out and will need to be replaced. Check the fuse first and hope the fuse blown due to the extra amp drown from the pump running without fuel. If the fuse is good, then check to see if you can hear the fuel pump start up when you turn the ignition key to the run position. Note the fuel pump will only energize the fuel line for 5 seconds, so you need to listen for the pump to turn on right away. The other thing too, is you can check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 62 to 65 PSI when energizing the fuel line and will drop around 5 PSI when the engine is running. Make sure you do not try to start the engine by pouring gas down the throttle body, it been know for the gas to catch fire in the intake manifold and burn up the fuel injector system which is very costly. Start with the simple and check the fuses and fuel pump, then replace the fuel filter. At worst, your going to have to replace the fuel pump by dropping the gas tank and don't forget to replace the wire harness from the fuel pump to the frame. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to know you got your Blazer running again soon.

ON A 1993 FORD EXPLORER WHERE IS THE GROUND POINT FOR THE FUEL PUMP? I HAVE NO FUEL PUMP OR FUEL GUAGE WORKING

Some times the wires in the tank burn up,Have you checked for a blown fuel pump fuse?It would be a good sigh of this. The fuel pump grounds off the tank, the sender, grounds threw the other side of the in-dash gauge.I would look for the whole fuel pump ,and fuel sender to have burned wires inside the tank.
