How do you press the brake caliper piston back on the rear brakes?2008 ford fusion
First, take a look at the piston, if it's flat or cup shaped, put an old pad at the piston and use channel locks to squeeze it back in, opening the tool wide to get it to catch the back of the caliper.
If....the piston has what looks like an "X" or cut outs, this is for a tool that spins the piston in with a special tool. (Subaru's and some other cars use this)
After you are all done and pump up the brakes, re-check the brake fluid level.
My suggestion as I just replaced mine in a 2008 fusion. Tell ya what, I'm a diesel mechanic in a driveline shop. And am pretty well seasoned. My remedy vs the actual tool to redo the rears are this.
(Skipping ahead past what others said to the solution of the issue)
Medium sized channel locks (to rotate the caliper press) and a 7 to 8 inch C-clamp. Clamp the back end of the caliper to the X front. When it's clamped turn the caliper piston with the channel locks. As doing this your clamp will need tightened as you turn. Keep doing this until it is fully compressed. The. Reassembling the new pads with stop squeak and tighten the caliper bolts back on but to torque specs.
