is there power to the coil when ignition switch is on? If L-6 motor check position sensor at top of bell housing at firewall, common problem on these, Distributor components?
replace the crank position sensor located on the back side of the motor(drivers side top) in the bell housing you can see it from top or under the jeep
Sounds like you need to Replace the Ignition Module.
It is a square box located on the side of your fender wall when you lift the hood approx 6 by 8 inch flat box shaped.
Go to auto store and they can show you a pic of it.

1989 Isuzu Trooper 2.6 5 speed. 4x4 jumps in gear by itself. 4x4 shifter is pulled hard back and held there but on highways it will jump back into gear. Have to stop and back up to unlock automatic hubs. Any suggestions?
if this vehicle has a crank positoin sensor, i would suspect that first before anything else. it would be mounted transmission bell housing toward top. very common poroblem with jeeps. does it have fuel pressure?
