Tip & How-To about Chevrolet C2500

Dash lights out Taillights out (Round 1157 bulbs all cars)

Common problem or complaint, Dash lights out or rear running lights not working. Most common problem for this is the round bulb for the brake and running lights flatten out over time and touch each other inside the bulb holder normally the ends should look like nn but when flattened out look like this _ _ and end up touching and shorting out, replace both bulbs. And on GM cars front running lights can cause the same thing so always check all four running light bulbs(Front and Rear). If it has the turn signal and running lights on the same socket always check this first. G.M. had built into it's wiring system a fail safe that if one running light went out the dash lights will not come on, this is so that you don't get a ticket for a running light or brake light out.

How many bulbs are used in each side's rear taillamp. If only one bulb is used for the night lights and the brake light, is it possible for the bulb's night light function to work when the brake light does not work?

it is quite common for twin filament bulbs to be used in stop and tail lights.
if the brake filament blows, the night light filament will still work.
just change the bulb

what do the relays and fuses look like under the hook of a 96 s 10 blazer. Someone said to check theses and how do you. My brake lights dont work and the 10A fuse under the dash is good and i replaced the break petal switch but still no break lights.

Did you check or replace the brake light bulbs?
It is more common to have burnt bulbs than a bad brake light switch or blown fuse.
Do you have orange signal lights and red brake lights at the rear?
Then the signal light switch will not affect the brake lights.....but....
If they are all red and you use the same bulbs for brake and signal....the brake light wiring goes through the signal light switch and could be affected there.
First....check for power getting to the brake light switch......and leaving it with a test light.......then go to the rear....pull a light assembly and check for power getting to the bulbs.no power? follow the wiring back to the switch looking for a bad connection.
The fuses and relays under the hood are usually in a black plastic box labeled fuses and or relays.

right signal and brake light

Looks like the problem is in the turn signal switch. This is a common problem. When the turn signal switch goes bad it will cause problems as mentioned above by you. Replace the turn signal mechanism.

brake lights do not work, all other lights work.

It is a common chevy problem for the circuit board that holds to bulb to fail, are your running lights and signals still working back there as well? If not then you need to replace the boards.
