I have a 97 dodge dakota 4x4 with the v-8 and 44re trans it started slipping in second gear when i was going to the lake pulling my boat. i took the trans out and found the front band was broke and the clutches worn and burnt. so i bout a rebuild kit for it and a shift kit. so i rebuilt the trans followed the direction put it in. i am having problems with it.it starts out in second gear and wont shift right?// have to manualy shift it/ let off the gas and hope it shifts at times. also service engine light comes on.why would this happen now and didnt before??? any ideas ?? thanks p.s i will have the trauble codes later today,i just dont get why there was no problems before and now there is? im told it may be the govener sensers?? i ohmed then out and they seemed fine? i adjusted the front band at 21/4 and rear at 4 turns out made sure all balls were in place on valve body it goes into gear fast forward and reverse but just wont shift right and when going down the street when i get it to shift i step on the gas and it down shifts fine ?? any ideas thanks?
Get the codes with scanner first, somethig is wrong in valve body, some valve, you should do a pressure test in each port in the trany, you know the plugs in the sides ok,if there is not the especific pressure some valve is not moving free or is stuck, look for speed sensors ectr,#1 scanner for codes ok.
What brand of fluid did you use?

Trouble Code: P1756 (5.2L V8 VIN Y Auto)
A/T Governor Pressure Not Equal To Target At 15-20 PSI
Print this code data
Number of Trips to Set Code: 1
OBD II Monitor Type: CCM Details
Indicators: MIL Details
CCM Details
Trouble Code Conditions:
Engine started; vehicle driven to a speed over 30 mph, and the PCM detected the Governor Pressure Sensor indicated less than 15 psi or more than 30 psi when the requested pressure was 20-25 psi for 2.2 seconds. This fault must occur 5 times on one trip to set this code.
Possible Causes:
Check for the presence of other A/T related trouble codes
Governor pressure Sensor is damaged or has failed
Governor pressure Sensor VREF (5v) circuit is open or shorted
Transmission valve body is leaking, damaged or has failed
PCM has failed
Trouble Code: P0135 (5.2L V8 VIN Y Auto)
O2 (B1 S1) Heater Circuit
Print this code data
Number of Trips to Set Code: 1
OBD II Monitor Type: CCM Details
Indicators: MIL Details
CCM Details
Trouble Code Conditions:
Key off after a warm engine drive cycle, engine cool-down finished (at least 5 seconds after the key is turned off), system voltage over 10.5v, then with the ASD relay energized, the PCM detected the O2 signal rose to 0.49v or more within a 144 second period, and the initial rise of the oxygen Sensor signal was less than 1.57v.
Possible Causes:
O2 heater ground circuit open or O2 signal circuit is open
O2 heater element has high resistance
O2 heater element has failed (open or shorted)
PCM has failed
Trouble Code: P0132 (5.2L V8 VIN Y Auto)
O2 (B1 S1) Circuit Short to Voltage
Print this code data
Number of Trips to Set Code: 1
OBD II Monitor Type: CCM Details
Indicators: MIL Details
CCM Details
Trouble Code Conditions:
Engine started; engine runtime over 119 seconds, system voltage over 10.99v, O2 heater temperature over 1085ºF and the PCM detected the O2 input was over 3.70v for 1 minute.
Possible Causes:
O2 signal tracking (wet/oily) in connector causing a short between the signal and heater power circuits
O2 ground circuit is open
O2 signal circuit is open
PCM has failed
