2000 GMC Jimmy won't shift to overdrive. New seal, screen, & sensor that shows what gear it is in and fluid changed. Worked for 3-4 weeks now "Service Engine Soon" light on and having same symptoms.

1996 4l60 shifting in and out of overdrive

Time for an overhaul on the transmission or replacement. 4L60's are notoriious for the overdrive clutch to give the "hail mary".
Try replacing the transmission filter first.

Ok after driving for like a hour my service engine ljght comes on and from a dead stop it shifts really hard into 2nd gear like I'm being rear ended and it will not shift into overdrive and I don't know...

You need to get trouble code out first.sounds like it might be a shift solenoid sticking.

P0700 means EATX Controller DTC Present. That means that there is an internal fault inside of the transmission control module, so you'll need a new module.

I have a 1996 Jimmy 4x4 vortex engine, the tranny will shift from overdrive to a lower gear all by itself while going down the highway causing the rpms to go up over 3000. I pull over and shut the engine...

Hello,

A couple of things come to mind that can cause the issue you are having;

1. Make sure your transmission fluid level isn't low.

2. If your transmission fluid hasn't been changed in a long time, you could have some deposits
built up in the valve body, or the screening could be partially clogged.

3. You may have a faulty shift solenoid/shift motor.

Number 3 is most likely your problem.

My 96 jimmy studders and does not want to change to the 4th gear when in drive,when in overdrive it wont change to 5th gear(overdrive)will the tps sensor do that

Make sure the engine is running right, sometimes they wont shift if the engine is missing or losing vacuum. Sounds like the computer system is sensing there is not enough torque to shift into the higher gears so it is preventing it. This could be caused by your engine not running right under load, bad gas, bad plugs or something that is causing your engine to miss under load

You'll have to connect the vehicle to a scanner and read the pressures @ the pressure control solenoid and the 1-2 shift solenoid to narrow down the problem.

Your going to have to get the Jimmy scaned before youhurt the transmission, It sounds like it's on a Limp mode which can range from a tune up to a bad ground. Good luck.

4th gear failure is a common problem with this transmission, assuming it is an automatic. You should have the vehicle checked for codes by a qualified repair center with the proper scan tool. Also, check fluid level and condition. More often than not, the trans loses 3rd and 4th gear, as these are working off the same set of clutches. 3-4 clutches apply in 3rd, and when the 4th shift is made the 2-4 band applies giving you overdrive. If you have no engine braking in manual 3rd, you definitely have a mechanical failure, no 4th could be an electrical, or mechanical fault.
