Starter - Removal & installing

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  3. Disengage the solenoid wiring connector from the terminal. This connection may be held in place by a retaining nut, or it could be a push-in connector.
  4. Remove the B+ nut and wire from the starter motor terminal.
  5. Remove the starter motor-to-transaxle bellhousing mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the starter from the vehicle. If equipped, remove the starter motor spacer.
To install:
  1. If equipped, hold the starter motor spacer in position.
  2. Install the starter motor into position on the vehicle.
  3. Install the starter motor-to-transaxle bellhousing mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  4. Engage the solenoid wiring connector onto the starter terminal.
  5. Connect the B+ wire and tighten the retaining nut to 90 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Verify starter motor operation.

The pics sometimes are totaly generics; other details for remove the starter, is located right below dipstick, you will need a 14mm or
    15mm box wrench.
Two bolts are on the left side of the starter
    horizontally.
One bolt attachs the battery cable and a clip hols the
    solenoid.
Remove and kragen can test the starter. replace and reconnect, half inch or 12mm socket needed to disconnect the positive cable on the starter.
15mm shallow socket needed for the upper bolt on the starter, a wrench,
preferably a 15mm socket wrench for the lower bolt on the starter.

There is a metal gasket on the starter, don't lose or damage it when
you remove the old starter, you will need it for the new one, easier to
insert it first before inserting the starter as opposed to trying to
insert the gasket while it is on the new starter.

    Good luck.

2005 dodge caravan 2.4 , location of crankshaft position sensor?

2005 Dodge Caravan SE 2.4L Engine. Crank Shaft Sensor is located on the front of the engine (side toward the radiator) and right below the starter.
Raise the vehicle on stands or ramps. From under the vechcle, unclip the wire plug. Loosen and remove the 8mm bolt. Pull out old sensor.
This CAN be done WITHOUT removing the starter. Easiest way is to use a deep 8mm x 1/4” drive socket and good lighting. I had to use vise grips to grip and pul out the old sensor. It is okay to twist and pull.
NOTE: I have seen many posts placing this sensor in all kinds of places. For this vehicle, this is where it is located. If you have a different engine or year, it could be located someplace else.

I nedd to replace the starter on a 2004 Dodge Caravan. I don't know where it is located or how to go about it.

The started is located on the back side of engine (firewall side) next to the transmission bellhousing. To remove starter first disconnect the negative battery wire from battery.Raise the front of van up and use jackstands to support the van, block the rear tires. From under the van remove the solenoid wire from starter. Remove bolts from starter and remove starter from van. Installation is the reverse the removal. Hope this will help.

Where is the starter on a 98 dodge gr caravan

Remove the air cleaner box and hoses. The starter is located near the bottom of the engine where it connects to the transmission assembly. It is accessed by jacking up the front of the car and working underneath. Remove the battery negative cable to prevent big sparks! Be sure to use jack stands under the car while working there. There are three bolts to remove and several wires to the solenoid. Watch for a spacer that, if used, will fall out when the starter is removed.
