My timing belt broke. I am told that a head job would more than likly fix this engine. I need the instruction to R&R the heads. Any tips on what else to look for, that may be a problem when this happens. I use to be a mechanic (30 years ago). I am capable of doing this job. just need some insight, and heads up on proper procedure. Thanks in advance.

Most timeing belt engines are non interference engines any way ...there are a few exceptions..but most won't cause valve damage .regardless of the rpm..not enough engine info for me to give a specific answer .
It depends on whether it was idling or being up in revs when it failed .
May have bent valves & or damage to pistons & or combustion chambers in corresponding cylinders
If you remove the spark plugs & try rotating engine by hand to see if it locks up.
A hole in the piston . Lots of videos on youtube , what engine ?

just go to any junk yard and find a used deawoo lanos and pull the head if timing belt was not broke, if it looks good, its a exact fit 100%, no special tools needed, just normal wrench set and torqe wrench. after head is installed, get a gates timing belt only.

On some 4.3 engines, when the timing marks line up, the #4 cylinder is the TDC. So you may have to point your distributor to #4. And look at your cap, sometimes, where the #4 wire joins the cap, the wire "inside" the cap may run to the other side of the cap, so look inside to see exactly where your rotor should be pointing.

It sounds to me like you have a vacuum leak or maybe a vacuum line connected in a wrong location. To find this if it's a leak, have a mechanic perform a vacuum test by blowing air through the intake. If there is a leak you will here air being forced out from the leaking location. Some shops also use smoke.
Hope this helps.

there is not a way to not affect the valve timing, the cam belt must be replaced in a repair like this, when u put it back together you must reset and confirm all the valve timing marks are in correct alignment, just no way way around this, if the cam is timed right the engines ignition timing is correct as well and will require no adjustment. this answer applies to all engine that use a cam drive belt.
