You Will have to take off the engine mounts. Place a piece of wood under where the tranny and the engine connect and lift it up.Then pop the freeze plug and put in a new one.they do have rubber ones too, youmay want to replace it with a heated one as well.

Could freeze plugs cause my Lincoln navigator 5.4l engaging leak water from back of engine and oil from the side of engine

Yes, that is a possibility. I have a 4-liter V-6 in my 1993 Ford and it had two freeze plugs that had rusted and were leaking. It was easy enough to replace them because they were on the side of the block but I learned there are two freeze plugs hidden under the transmission bell housing. It they are leaking, antifreeze would be dripping off the back of the engine.

Freeze plugs should not cause oil leaks as they are a safety device for the water jacket.

Where are the freezeplugs located on a lincoln towncar 1996

According to Haynes Manual, for a 4.6 OHC motor, the Freeze plugs are located about 3-4 inches below the cylinder head, under the exhaust manifold. The back plug is 5-6 inches in front of the bell housing on the block. They are pictured on page 2C-21 of the Manual in section 15 Engine Block Cleaning..

Coolant leaking at the top, rear of engine on a 1998 Lincoln Towncar

If you are in the cold freeze region then it can be FREEZE PLUGS or head gasket,

Freeze plugs prevent the coolant from cracking the block.

The only fix is to replace the freeze plugs.
