  • heavy_millio Nov 06, 2009

i gonna explain it in spanish: donde esta el tire rod end izguierda al final adrento se conecta con algo paresido un tubo ahi drento se suena un sonido muy raro , cuando estoy manejando cuando gira se suena mas peor

  • heavy_millio Nov 06, 2009

    yes something like that

  • heavy_millio Nov 07, 2009

    only at the driver`s side

Okay, now we are getting somewhere. What I think is happening is the CV (Constant Velocity) joint has broken its seal, dirt got in, and the joint is grinding on itself. A constant velocity joint is the joint where the torque from the transmission is transferred to the wheel to propel the car. Can you tell me if you hear it from both sides or just the driver's side?

I do not quite understand Spanish...are you saying the noise sounds like someone blowing their nose and it is coming from the tie-rod end...and you hear it all the time but it gets worse when you turn the steering wheel?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Little bangs...does the steering wheel feel like its popping or jerking when you hear the bangs? Does it do when you turn both ways or just one way?

Ok, there is a 98% probability the CV joint needs to be replaced. I am hesitant to diagnose the tie rod ends because they do not "move" like the CV joint and wouldn't be making that noise. Also, it gets worse when you turn which is the CV joint popping on itself. You aren't feeling anything through the steering wheel so it can't be the ball joint or pittman arm. I am certain you need to replace the CV joint. If you do not know how to do it, please have a shop look at it because the front end will probably need to be realigned as well. Hope that helps!

I have a honda accord 1993. I had a leaking power steering pressure line and a bad rack and pinion that I just replaced, but now I have a howling sound when i'm driving the vehicle. it makes the sound...

Is the fluid low?

Did you replace it with an aftermarket pump?

Aftermarket pumps are notorious for making noise. Your nest bet is to get a good used part or get one from the dealer.

If there is a lot of foam in the fluid it will cause the same noise also. You can add an ounce of seafoam motor tune (available at any good parts store) to the power steering fluid. This will help reduce the faoming fluid.

The last thing I can think of is did you use Honda powersteering fluid? If not your going to want to flush the powersteering system ASAP so you don't ruin the parts you just replaced.

How do i remove the Powersteering pump in my 1998

Replace the ps pump, brake fluid is not a lubricant, your pump is scored, raise the van, block it, remove the sheild, belt and right axle, and remove the pump, you will have to flush the system with 4-5 litres of PS fliud only. GOOD LUCK, RDJRP

Replaced power steering pump it still makes grinding noise when you make a turn.

Hi

If you have replaced the powersteering pump and this is not a used pump - the problem is suspect within the steering rack itself.

It is important also to check that you have bled all air out of the system when the fluid was replaced. To do this take the lid off the powersteering reservoir tank and turn the steering all the way left and right for 8 turns. Check and top up fluid as necessary.

Also ensure you are using the correct grade of fluid for your vehicle.

If the noise persists after these checks - suspect steering rack at fault.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Steering problem, can turn left w/ powersteering assisting but when I turn right I have no powersteering assistance

Does it have disc or drum brakes? If it has disc see if the rotor has turned blue from heat most likely stuck caliper. If it has drum brakes remove drum look for pieces springs adjuster e.t.c. if everything intact turn axle see if you hear noise usually a bad or locked up hub bearing will make loud humming noise.
