I have changed the lube oil and filter in my mountainer, but the display on the dashboard still shows 'oil change required'. How do I the 'oil change required' message?

The instructions on how to reset the' oil change required' message is in the owners manual (I believe it's page 81). Listed below is a site to get a free download of the manual for your 05 Mountaineer. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing this info.

Had Oil Changed...Now I Can't SEE my INFORMATION DISPLAY!

  • The message center display is blank
  • Instrument cluster.
  • INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Section 413-01 .

see owners manual for information

Principles of Operation
The message center is a vacuum fluorescent display, part of the instrument cluster. The message center electronic functions use both hardwired, standard corporate protocol (SCP), and UART based protocal (UBP) communication networks to transmit and receive information. As a technician it is very important to understand:
  • where the input (command) originates from.
  • all the information (messages) necessary in order for a feature to operate.
  • which module(s) receive(s) the input or command message.
  • does the module which receieved the input (message) control the input of the feature, or does it output a message over the SCP communication network to another module?
  • which module controls the output of the feature.
The message center provides the following features:
  • information displays
  • setup displays
  • warning messages
  • system check messages
The message center information can be selected through a set of three bottons:
  • INFO
  • SETUP
  • RESET

How do you reset the oil change required sign that comes up on then information display of a 2002 mountaneer. It has had an oil change but they failed to reset it.

Hi,
Hold the reset button in for 5 seconds.

You should then get a message the the "oil" life is 100% or the oil change required light will go out.
I hope this helps.
