Im looking for my transmission solenoid on my 1997 pontiac grand am. I was told it was in the pan but I dont see it there are two plates with gasket is it in there.
There are several solenoids in the side pan, not the oil pan where the filter is located. There are a couple of shift solenoids and the TCC (torque converter clutch) solenoid inside the side pan.

Transmittion dose not shift is the shift
It's inside the transmission. I believe that it's under the side pan, which is where the valve body is located. It's NOT a good location to have to remove a side pan and re-install while it's in the vehicle. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but a professional.
